About the event

Do you like to Run? Walk? Get the kids outside? Explore the great outdoors? Do you also care about kids' safety and building a strong community? Then this is the event for you!

The Washtenaw Area Council for Children is proud to present our 1st Annual - Strides Against Abuse 5K Run/Walk! 

All proceeds support our mission to prevent child abuse, neglect and maltreatment.

This combo live/virtual race will take place from July 17th- July 24th. In partnership with St. Joseph's Hospital we will hold a kick-off LIVE event on July 17th from 8AM-12PM at St. Joe's Medical Arts Building Parking Lot (our office) so you can pick up your t-shirt and medal. Maps of the local 5K Route will be provided.

Whether it's hot, cold, sunny or rainy, this is the perfect time to get out and run or walk with friends and family to support the safety and well-being of children and communities in Washtenaw County. 

Why should you sponsor?

Each year WACC reaches over 10,000 youth and adults throughout Washtenaw County and we rely on sponsors and donors like you in order to continue to keep kids safe and protected and build strong communities.

Your sponsorship not only helps to defray the cost of the event but also provides the much needed funds for programming. Sponsorships will be used for t-shirts, medals, lanyards, signage, maps, and supplies. Additional funds from sponsorships will help us reach our fundraising goal of $25,000.

Our mission at WACC is to promote child safety and well-being, and to prevent child maltreatment, abuse, and neglect through educational service and programs to children, parents, community members and youth-serving professionals throughout Washtenaw County. After 45 years of providing comprehensive prevention across Washtenaw County, over 12,000 lives are changed annually as a result of Washtenaw Area Council for Children’s programs.
