Garden State Fondo (formerly Gran Fondo NJ) is the nation's #1 large-scale cycling event. The ride takes place each September in Morristown, NJ and attracts over 2,500 passionate and active individuals to ride bikes, have fun, and challenge themselves in one of the most scenic corners of the Northeast. Garden State Fondo is deeply rooted in supporting the New Jersey community, and has donated over $1.5 million to local charities throughout the years.
Garden State Fondo was created in 2011 by local bike shop owner Marty Epstein. Marty's life mission was to save the world with bikes. He inspired thousands of people to join the sport of cycling and engage in active lifestyles. Marty was a major supporter of charitable organizations and maintained sustained partnerships with local youth organizations, cancer awareness & research programs and solutions for homeless people.
Garden State Fondo encompasses an entire weekend of events culminating with the big ride on Sunday. The Morristown Bike Expo takes place on the Friday and Saturday before the Fondo and serves as a packet pickup. With over 2,000 riders and their families passing through, the Expo provides an incredible platform for brands to engage face to face with potential clients, promote products & brand awareness, and capture emails. Saturday's program also includes the Fort Nonsense Uphill Time Trial, the Morristown Mayor's Kids Fondo and Culture Night. Following the ride on Sunday, the Post Ride Festival affords brands another opportunity to gain exposure to over 2,500 cyclists and their families as they celebrate their accomplishments of the day.
Garden State Fondo is forged on the ideals of supporting our community and providing riders an opportunity to have fun, make new friends and challenge themselves. The event was rated #1 Gran Fondo in the USA by Gran Fondo in 2019. Garden State Fondo is also the first cycling event to achieve the Gold Standard for Sustainability by the Council for Responsible Sport.
Garden State Fondo is much more than just a bike ride however. The program kicks off in April with Official Training Rides throughout the region. Sponsors will enjoy a year-round brand exposure program through consistent engagement with our growing audience on social media, website and emails. Throughout the year, Garden State Fondo communications receive nearly half a million impressions to over 20,000 followers. Sponsor play a vital role in the production and success of this community driven event.
Garden State Fondo is entering its 10th year in 2020 and is deeply engrained within the Central New Jersey community. I was so inspired as a participant in last year's event that I decided to leave my old job and work on this project because I truly believe in its power to connect and inspire people to participate in the sport I love: cycling.
