An interactive platform designed to involve the public in honoring those who preserve and maintain the spirit of underground music. Through this platform, fans can show their support, advocate for artists they believe in, and join in celebrating the creative power of music to transform lives.

The APEX Awards were initially designed in 2024 to honor indie hip hop artists within a designated community, celebrating their talent, passion, and loyalty to the underground music scene. Focused on highlighting impact over fame, the awards were created to bring recognition to exceptional “dope humans” who exemplify success and dedication within hip hop and related creative circles.

This year, Phoenix Roots has expanded our mission to honor a diverse range of individuals who contribute meaningfully to their communities, with a renewed emphasis on the therapeutic power of music. Nominees are selected through rigorous research and interviews, highlighting those who use music to foster well-being and resilience.

Now, as we approach the 2025 Apex Awards, the event is set to establish an inclusive, interactive platform that equally celebrates indie artists and community members. Phoenix Roots is teaming up TheXOJOShow and innovative members of the community to amplify the voices of those connected to and inspired by the transformative power of music therapy.

Jo Anne ‘JoJo’ Piccarillo is a New York Business Development Specialist & Mental Health Practitioner. With over 20+ years of experience in business operations, JoJo has been an active mental health & suicide prevention advocate since the age of 15. Now holding multiple designations in mental health and holistic therapy, JoJo is dedicated to providing catered support and compassionate services through the FUSE Method.

As an avid music enthusiast and firm believer in the power of music therapy, JoJo made her introduction to the indie music scene as a tour assistant for the Tour For Life mental health awareness + suicide prevention charity music tour presented by Full Blast Booking. After four years of dedicated service and a newfound respect for the world of indie music, JoJo founded what will now be known as the very first all-inclusive platform for growth development and support within the indie music community.
