  • About the event

In 2016 a small group of student journalists from the University of Manchester's student media collective Manchester Media Group organised the first-ever Women In Media Conference. Women In Media gives delegates the opportunity to celebrate and learn from successful women in journalism, radio, TV, blogging, marketing and much more, through keynote speeches, panel sessions and workshops. We aim to empower young women to take their first steps in the world of media and forge their own successful careers.

Last year we welcomed delegates from across the UK including Stirling, Bristol and London, and Women In Media 2017, #WIM17, promises to be even bigger and better than last year. Students and non-student delegates are both very welcome, and profits from our affordable ticket sales will be donated to local charity MASH (Manchester Action on Street Health). We are delighted to be working alongside Amnesty International to bring the Conference to fruition this year.

This year we will be hosting the Women In Media Conference at the People's History Museum in Manchester, a museum championing "ideas worth fighting for", which perfectly reflects the values of our event.

    Why should you sponsor?

We are looking for sponsors who can provide some much-needed extra funds in order to make the conference the best experience possible for our delegates. We would like to invest more in speakers, marketing, and merchandise, and would also love any goodies or gift bags to gift our amazing delegates.

We aim to empower young women to have the confidence to get their foot on the media career ladder, and fight against any and all prejudices stopping women of all backgrounds and ethnicities from achieving this dream.

Our conference is full of big, innovative, exciting ideas and important messages, and we hope you'll want to get on board to help us pull off the greatest conference ever!

    Gemma Sowerby

I am Gemma Sowerby, co-chair of Women in Media Conference 2017. We're students at the University of Manchester, and are part of the Manchester Media Group, the student media collective at our university.

The conference is entirely student-run, and all of our profits will go to our chosen charity, Manchester Action on Street Health. We are also supported by Amnesty International, who are working so hard to ensure the conference is the best it can be.

We set up the conference to empower young women to achieve success in the media, and though we are all heading in different directions, we all have one goal: to land our dream job and forge our dream career, and we want to share this ambition with our delegates.

We hope you will consider us.
