September is suicide prevention awareness month. REBORN and Orchestra Amadeus are partnering up to raise awareness for the current epidemic of suicide, as it is now the second leading cause of death among ages 18-24 in the entire world. (CDC)
This event is created by REBORN, a 501c3 suicide prevention based non profit organization that believes saving lives requires disruptive new approaches, fearless leadership, and a renewed sense of urgency, along with Orchestra Amadeus, an orchestra that believes in benefiting the community through awareness concerts and events.
This program features music by three composers whose lives were affected by suicide. Hugo Wolf was arguably the greatest composer of German art song since Franz Schubert, but his life, much like Schubert's, ended far too soon. Wolf attempted suicide at the age of 38--he was unsuccessful--but eventually had himself committed before dying at the age of 43.
Gustav Mahler was a legend even during his lifetime, and his life was marked by both high triumph and deep tragedy. He lost his brother Otto to suicide, and Gustav's obsession with death manifested itself fully in his music.
Piotr Tchaikovsky was the greatest melodist in Russias's musical history, and his passionate and emotional works mark the high point of 19th century Romanticism. Living life as a gay man in Russia was extremely difficult for the composer--and dangerous--and his brief, ill-fated marriage to a woman ended in disaster and near-tragedy after he threw himself into a river to try ending his life. Unsuccessful in this attempt, he composed the 4th Symphony while convalescing, and the work moves from deep despair to hope to triumph over the course of its 45 incredibly emotional minutes.
Help us bring awareness of suicide, prevention, as well as REBORN and Orchestra Amadeus. September is suicide prevention awareness month. (CDC) The first step in any form of awareness is starting the conversation- what better way to do this than through a beautiful orchestra event?
About Orchestra Amadeus
Orchestra Amadeus was founded in 2015 with one mission: to promote social justice through classical music. The Orchestra gives benefit concerts to raise money and awareness for humanitarian issues, with proceeds from the concerts going to a partner charity whose mission and work supports the cause to which each concert is dedicated.
About REBORN
REBORN is a social impact initiative that believes saving lives requires disruptive new approaches, fearless leadership, and a renewed sense of urgency. We are a suicide prevention based 501c3 that is creating new forms of treatment, awareness, and outreach. The shows and events we plan and hold are intended to raise awareness for the current statistics on suicide and depression, all while continuing the conversation of how we believe we can create change and lower those statistics.
