About the event

The Sun Parlour Female Hockey Association (SPFHA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, developing, and serving the needs of female hockey players throughout the Windsor-Essex County region. SPFHA was established in 1993 as the first hockey program in the region solely devoted to female hockey. With community based teams in Windsor, LaSalle, and Tecumseh, it is the largest female hockey association in the area with approximately 500 players in the house league and competitive programs! The SPFHA is a member of and governed by the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA), the largest female hockey body in the world, and governed under Hockey Canada.

The SPFHA is proud to host the Windsor Wild Winter Classic for its 20th year. As one of the premier OWHA tournaments in Southwestern Ontario, we welcome teams from across the province as well as from our neighbours in Michigan. This 3 day tournament hosts females from Novice (age 6+) to Intermediate (21U) divisions, helping to promote females in the sport at all levels. 

As the years go on, the tournament continues to grow with 2019 reaching 35 teams. We are expecting the 2020 tournament to be our biggest tournament to date and excited to start this journey with our organizing team, players, coaches, hockey community, and sponsors. Go Wildcats!

This event is an awesome opportunity to experience the community and freidnships formed in youth sports, particularly in female hockey. Taking after the community vibe Windsor has, we invite all members of the community to participate throughout the weekend. We have numerous vendors, volunteers, and donors from the Windsor Essex area that contribute annually to the success of the event. 

By sponsoring this event, you will be actively showing your support in female athletics and aiding in our continuing ambition to grow the event. We hope to reach our full capacity of the rinks in 2021 and are using this year as a building block to new opportunities for the Classic in the future. 

Katie Doe

My name is Katie Doe and I am the Tournament Convenor for the Windsor Wild Winter Classic 2020. I have been a member of the Sun Parlour Female Hockey Association for almost 17 years now, first starting as a player in the Atom division and most recently as a head coach and Tournament Convenor. Female hockey has played a huge role in shaping me as a person and taught me numerous skills I now use in my professional life. I gained teamwork and leadership skills, and was able to develop my mental toughness through hard losses and teamwork challenges.
