This event is a panel centered around the effectiveness, capacity, and prevalence of protest in sport. Broadly, this project seeks to develop the current dichotomy that exists in the realm of protest in sport and expand upon additional dialogues that could potentially link contrary views beneath one united cause. Our panel will feature a variety of athletes and sporting professionals including professional Houston Texans football player, Christian Covington. The purpose of this event is to investigate the creation of multiple perspectives that may surround divisive social problems. By using Colin Kaepernick as a case study, we aim to investigate the adoption or rejection of his stance and his deliberate action of protest during the American national anthem. We hope to provide a safe environment that encourages conversation and leads to action.
By sponsoring our event you will appear on all of our flyers and any other source we use for advertisement, including social media. We will be discussing our event on the radio and we will be sure to include you. Our event will be open to all members of Rice University and we are expecting 100-200 people and we will acknowledge you at our event.
My name is Molly Tilbrook and I am a senior at Rice University, majoring in sociology. I run track and field and cross country at Rice, and so have a love for both sport and social events. I want to raise awareness about social issues across all domains of life.
