Brought to you by The Windmill Factory and Drama Desk Award nominee Vinny Deponto, The Grotesquery (working title) is a modern pop-up show in vacant NYC storefronts.
In the early days of the traveling circus, the brave and curious used to gather on the side of the big tent to see the unthinkable. Wonders they’ve never seen before and likely never will again. The sideshow, as they called it, was a place the outcasts of the world could come together to craft an art around their talents and infectious personalities. We have lost this live art.
Today the unthinkable, disgusting, and esoteric are a mere search away. We have forgotten how much better it is to feel the tip of a sword under skin after it has been swallowed hilt deep than to watch it on a webcam.
The Grotesquery is a traveling group of post modern performance artists like you’ve never seen before. It celebrates art that is too unique for any theatre. An immersive experience for 20 people at a time standing side by side and isolated, each in their own magical world. Only those who are lucky, or know how to find it can participate in the show. So drop a few bucks in the hat and step behind the curtain for an experience you can only find at The Grotesquery.
