About our event

Organized and hosted by Robbie Hancock, offered by Sync or Swim Music, and supported by Amplify BC’s Industry Initiatives program, the Sync or Swim Music Event Weekend offers a unique opportunity for members of the music industry – composers, songwriters, artists, and other stakeholders – to connect, share knowledge, and exchange best practices associated with the sync-focused sector of the industry, including licensing and business development opportunities.

Sync or Swim Music events have been developed to support the music sector, connect industry professionals, and provide a robust knowledge and best practices base for individuals at all stages of career. The initiative was was founded in June of 2021 by singer/songwriter, composer/producer, and owner/operator Robbie Hancock.

Slated for May 27, 28, and 29, 2022, the weekend will enable attendees network directly with sync-focused artists, songwriters and composers. It is also a chance to learn from industry professionals who have created successful careers in sync licensing (namely, film, tv, documentaries, commercials, and video games). Participating attendees will also have the opportunity to have their music played and critiqued by sync professionals during the weekend. There will also be networking and social periods.

Sync or Swim Music was founded in June of 2021 by singer/songwriter, composer/producer and owner/operator Robbie Hancock.  Robbie has over 1000 placements in Film, TV, Documentaries and Commercials and reached the point in his career with success in music licensing to start giving back and paying forward, with the help of his mentors and industry pro friends.  ROBBIE'S BIO AND CREDITS

After launching the 1st networking event with over 15 industry pro speakers and 150 attendees he knew he had something special.  Sync or Swim Music has since grown after 3 weekend events to over 500 attendees in total and an email list of over 1000 sync focused songwriters, composers and artists.  Robbie has always led with honestly, kindness and empathy from day 1 and continues to instill a safe online environment that is inclusive and diverse throughout in attendees as well as team members and industry pros. 

Sync or Swim Music is FREE for attendees to participate at the events with registration and to connect with the community social networks that are steadily growing in numbers thanks to the volunteer social networking and marketing teams.

Robbie Hancock is a singer/songwriter, composer, music supervisor and music producer for film, television, documentaries and commercials.

Some of his recent song and composer credits include music placed on NBC, CBS, ABC, BBC One, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Crave, HBO, A&E, AMC, CNN, Discovery ID, The History Channel, National Geographic Channel, Teletoon, The Weather Channel, TLN, MTV, Bravo, BTN, HGTV, Comedy Central, City TV, The DIY Network and Animal Planet.  He also has had music placed in a national Canadian ad for BMO and the Calgary Stampede.  Most recently he composed the original score and was the music supervisor for a short film called "Good Grief" which has been released and has already won for "Best Short Narrative Film" at the LA Sunfest and LA Indies film festivals.

As a performer for over 20 years, Robbie has played at Disney World, Busch Gardens, Canadian Music Week, North by North East, The Ottawa Tulip Festival, The Hamilton Music Awards, and The Halifax Pop Explosion. He has toured Canada several times and recently performed in Nashville and Los Angeles at live music venues and conferences.  He also regularly participates in the Artist on Board program for VIA Rail Canada, performing on the trains for passengers from all over the world each year from coast to coast.

Robbie also was a panelist and mentor recently on publishing and licensing at the Rifflandia Gathering Music Festival and Conference in Victoria BC on publishing and licensing and also recently ran a national clinic for the Songwriter Association Canada on Sync Licensing.  He also runs clinics online on licensing songs and instrumentals to film and television. He also offers consulting to give back to those that want to get their music into sync opportunities as well as recording services to songwriters and solo artists that would like help with production of their songs for sync focus at broadcast quality.  As a producer Robbie’s clients have songs that have made the semi-finals in the International Songwriting Competition, The Canadian Songwriting Competition and a 1st and 3rd place win at the Women’s Freedom Song Contest.  Their songs have also been placed recently in high bar music libraries in California.

Robbie has also recently created a free community for songwriters and composers called Sync or Swim to give back and pay forward what he has learned through weekend networking events and education with the help of other industry pros through kindness and empathy.

Robbie runs fundraiser events for homeless teens and has brought awareness and raised funds together with the help of local musicians and communities every year since 2008 and has now with the help of local and artists and communities, raised over $20,000 to help end youth homelessness.
