We are organizing our first sorority founders' day event on Saturday, October 16th, 2021, from 11 am - 4 pm in Philadelphia. This event aims to celebrate our founders for starting an organization that brings us together and celebrates our educational achievements. Our event will feature a free women's empowerment private event in person and virtually.
Sigma Chi Psi an independent multicultural organization. We are the first collegiate sorority for women pursuing a degree online in an effort to bridge the social gap some may experience. Our membership also extends to students at community and technical colleges.
Traditional sororities and fraternities are reluctant to extend Greek chapters to current students taking online classes. We have not let this marginalization stop us. Instead, we are making progress towards a brighter future, where women taking accredited classes online have in-person community support, vital career networking, and ample opportunities to give back through charitable events that our sisters host.
In less than a year, we have unexpectedly grown tremendously. We have obtained our first celebrity honorary member Trina E. Braxton, a graduate of the University of Phoenix. We have also received many celebrity well-wishers blessings.
Be part of the first sponsors to sponsor our event for our first founder's day celebration.
The founder of Sigma Chi Psi, Dr. Hildra Starks, is truly a selfless individual. Not too many years ago, as a young person living in LA, Hildra experienced the isolation and hopelessness of being homeless. When she finally pulled herself out of the situation, she was working on a research project in Miami and began to uncover a growing demand for a sisterhood among women attending online colleges and universities.
Soon after, she made it her mission to establish the first independent multicultural sorority for collegiate programs and the Beautiful Jades of Sigma Chi Psi was born. What is even more wonderful is that Hildra knows what a lifeline this type of connection can be for women who are often juggling careers, multiple jobs, families, or all of the above. She pushed for this through the pandemic, when met with significant roadblocks, and kept going because of the vision she had and what she knew it could do in terms of uplifting female students, faculty, and alumnae of online programs.
Dr. Starks is literally adding on another dimension to online learning programs—the social dimension. Studies show that online programs and distance learning have a much higher dropout rate than in-person learning because of that vital social factor. Hildra is helping women to have that and is positively affecting both the sisters’ personal lives and educational careers as a result.
