Catalyst Stage kicks off its 5th season with the Tony Award winning play RED by John Logan.
Directed by Lexi Wight and Kayla Kennedy
Designed by C.s. Gollnick
-------
RED is a passionate view into the final works of abstract painter, Mark Rothko.
Two painters, two generations; one at the end of a career and the other only just beginning to dream. Logan's beautiful script debates the responsibilities and the purpose of art in modern society.
Making his Catalyst Stage debut, Jack Shea brings to life the riveting, powerful essence of an artist in decline.
"We're a smirking nation, living under the tyranny of 'fine.' How are you? Fine.. How was your day? Fine. How are you feeling? Fine. How did you like the painting? Fine. Want some dinner? Fine... Well, let me tell you, everything is not fine!!" ~ RED
Ken, played by Bryant Cyr lands the dream job of working beneath this pioneer of post war american art. Only to discover the tyranny and demeaning beliefs of the "celebrity" who stands before him.
"When I was your age, art was a lonely thing: no galleries, no collecting, no critics, no money. We didn't have mentors. We didn't have parents. We were alone. But it was a great time, because we had nothing to lose and a vision to gain."
