About our event
The Queen's Charity Lunch is an annual event that honors National Infertility Awareness Week and the advocates and healthcare professionals that support the infertility and pregnancy loss community. This event raises awareness and dollars for the foundation's Fertility Warrior Fund which provides financial resources and support to women and couples seeking support on their infertility journey. The foundation honors the journey of these women and couples and all the work that the foundation is doing in the community each year to bridge the gap between those impacted and those who support and provide resources; i.e improving the patient and doctor conversation around infertility and continuing to break down the conversation barriers around infertility so that preventative reproductive care can be brought to the forefront and infertility and pregnancy loss numbers can decrease in our communities; especially in our minority communities. It is a celebration of courage and commitment to family and to those who deal with the emotional, mental and physical impacts of infertility everyday.

Sponsors are so vital to how the foundation supports the infertility and pregnancy loss commuity. Your sponsorship dollars allow the foundation to increase awareness around infertility and to provide vital resources to women and couples who need financial assistance wither fertility consults and other reproductive assistance procedures such as Invitro Fertilization (IVF), and Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) procedures that are not covered by most insurance providers. Sponsors enable the foundation to operate in fulfilling its mission of supporting women and couples and helping them reach sucessful pregnancies. Sponsor dollars also allow us to support our initiative of improving health equity in our community; especially in commuities of color. If we can reducesome of the healthcare disparities, we can work to effectively reduce the infertility numbers. Sponsors and donors provide the life-blood of the foundation. Our events and other initiatives would not be possible; the change that we are seeking to accomplish is not possible without the support of our donors and sponsors.

My name is Shemaine Pickens and I am the Executive Director of the Fertile Ground Foundation. My husband and I started the Fertile Ground Foundation in 2022. The foundation was inspired by our own journey with infertility. We are infertility survivors still on the road towards reaching a successful pregnancy. We spent the last decade working to expand our family and the road has been littered with obstacles; obstacles that we could have possibly avoided had we had more resources and information available to us. We started Fertile Ground so that it can be an active force in the infertility community. It's purpose is to educate women and couples and help them to make decisions around their fertility sooner so they are empowered when it comes to starting or expanding their family. We also wanted to create space for those who needed emotional and mental support from dealing with infertility. Because talking about infertility is still so taboo in many communities, the foundation works to open dialogue around infertility through our support group and podcast. This has been one of the most difficult journeys of my life...of our lives and we want to prevent other women and couples from traveling this road alone. I hope that we can use our journey with infertility and pregnancy loss to inspire other women and couples and to let them know, the can do this!
