Portsmouth Afro-Caribbean Society Freshers Welcome Party,

About the event

The Afro-Caribbean Society (ACS) is situated at the University of Portsmouth and our purpose is to unite and celebrate African and Caribbean culture in Portsmouth through activities such as socials, debates and various other events. The University of Portsmouth is currently in the top 50 universities according to The Guardian’s 2016 table and is also in the top 2% of the world’s universities which suggests that the University attracts sharp minds from all over the world. 

The Afro-Caribbean Society has been very successful over the last few years and this has been evident in the large increase in membership. Our membership has grown significantly and continues to do so.  ACS has also produced a number of successful events, these include:  

• The Black History Month Showcase which educated members and non-members about Black culture whilst showcasing home-grown talent 

• A BBQ and After Party to give a warm welcome to new members and celebrate the start the beginning of term 

• An End of Year Ball to celebrate the achievement of the Society and individuals who have made a lasting impact not only in the society but in Portsmouth 
   

Following on from the success of the last committee, the incoming committee have set new objectives to push the society beyond its borders. At present, we are in the process of planning a variety of events – both social and intellectually stimulating – these include debates with others ACS's such as Oxford and Cambridge University and also parties that will forever cement Portsmouth ACS as the best ACS in the UK!! 

All of the achievements from previous years has been a direct result of membership fees and money generated from hosting these events as well as fundraising however this is not enough to sustain the ever-growing society. In order to achieve all what has been planned, we would be more than grateful if you helped the ACS with sponsoring us the form of financial aid and any other aid that you can provide us with. 

We would be grateful if you could support our ACS this year. We anticipate over 200+ membership this year, and as the new committee we refuse to be anything other than the BEST.  The amount you give is completely up to you. The following are some of ways we feel that we can give back to your company:
