  • About the event

The Octogenarian Odyssey 4.0 is a remarkable cycling journey around Australia, led by an 82-year-old Canadian adventurer and Guinness World Record holder. This expedition, spanning 5½ months and starting in May 2025, is about embracing life’s possibilities at any age. The journey covers diverse Australian landscapes, from deserts to coastlines, as I navigate the entire continent.

With over 40,000 km already cycled after 80, across North America, South America, and Europe, including my record-breaking ride from Alaska to Argentina, I am now tackling the challenging terrains of Australia. This Odyssey aims to inspire people of all ages—especially seniors—to expand their horizons, pursue their dreams, and enjoy an active lifestyle well into retirement. It also serves as a call to the younger generation to leave their screens behind and immerse themselves in nature, fitness, and cultural experiences.

This adventure offers a unique platform for brands to align with themes of resilience, exploration, and lifelong learning. Sponsors will gain exposure through documented stories, social media, books, press, and public engagements. The goal is to not just cycle around Australia, but also to inspire others to push beyond the limits they thought possible, creating memories and connections along the way.

    Why should you sponsor?

Supporting the Octogenarian Odyssey 4.0 is an opportunity to partner with an extraordinary adventure that embodies resilience, the pursuit of dreams, and the limitless possibilities of the human spirit. At 82 years old, I am embarking on a 5½-month cycling journey around Australia, aiming to challenge stereotypes about aging while inspiring both young and old to embrace an active, adventurous lifestyle. My Guinness World Record for the longest electric bike journey, which covered over 14274 km from Alaska to Panama, is a testament to my dedication and spirit, resonating with audiences worldwide.

This journey presents sponsors with a unique platform for brand visibility, showcasing your commitment to health, adventure, and active aging. Sponsors will gain exposure through regular social media updates, public events, media appearances, and an eventual published book, all documenting the trials and triumphs of navigating the Australian landscape. Additionally, I am committed to working collaboratively with sponsors to create a tailored approach that delivers meaningful value, whether it’s through product endorsements, press conferences, or other creative initiatives.

Supporting this adventure is not only about aligning with a journey—it’s about making a powerful statement that the possibilities in life are endless, regardless of age. This Odyssey will reach audiences globally, inspire adventure-seekers, families, seniors, and anyone who dreams of living life to the fullest, and promote the brands that support this incredible mission.

    Robert Fletcher

I am Robert Fletcher, an 82-year-old adventurer, educator, and Guinness World Record holder. Physically fit and deeply passionate about the outdoors, I have spent a lifetime embracing challenges and inspiring others to expand their horizons. My most recent Guinness World Record achievement was for the longest electric bike journey, and I cycled over 40,000 km from the top of Alaska to the southern tip of Argentina and across Europe since I turned 80. Now, I’m ready to embark on my next challenge—cycling around Australia in the Octogenarian Odyssey 4.0.

My background is diverse: I spent 30 years as an educator with the Edmonton Public School Board in Canada, and by 2½ years with the New South Wales Department of Education in Australia. Over the years, I have engaged with life through countless adventures, completing marathons, trekking the Camino de Santiago, and cycling across 37 countries. My travels have taken me through iconic and remote locations, including Botswana, where I spent time among rhinoceroses, gaining a unique perspective on wildlife conservation. I have summited peaks, climbed mountains, and pursued physically demanding activities well into my senior years—all to prove that age is no limit to adventure.

Throughout my adventures, I have cycled across continents, published books recounting my experiences, and inspired people of all ages. My passion lies in proving that the spirit of exploration knows no bounds and that retirement marks the beginning of a new chapter of opportunity. The upcoming journey around Australia aims to inspire seniors to keep pushing their boundaries and encourage the younger generation to seek meaningful experiences beyond screens.

The Octogenarian Odyssey 4.0 is my way of showing that life can always be lived to the fullest, regardless of age. I invite sponsors to join me in making this journey a testament to resilience, inspiration, and a celebration of the wonders of Australia.
