Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity (ECHC) supports the Royal Hospital for Children & Young People in Edinburgh https://echcharity.org/ - and we have just launched a new, pilot mental health service for children, young people and their families in Tranent.
Children and young people in Scotland are facing a mental health crisis. ECHC’s research has found that over half (59%) of Scottish families have a child who has experienced a mental health concern. This impacts not just the child but the whole family, affecting their resilience, health, education, and the ability of parents to attend or perform at work. And they feel alone, abandoned, with nowhere to turn, often languishing for months and years on a CAHMS waiting list. We believe this is wrong. We know that there is no time to wait to help.
But we have a solution, The Haven, a drop-in service where families have someone who can listen, support and help them through the challenges that having a child who struggles with their mental health can bring. Please find out more here. https://echcharity.org/the-haven/.
Our No Time To Wait Ball will support this new service and our other services within the hospital by raising awareness and funds, with the hope to exceed £100,000. It takes place on Saturday 25th November 2023 at Prestonfield House Hotel and will be hosted by former Royal Marine, Invictus Games Gold Medallist, Strictly contestant and now TV Presenter, JJ Chalmers who is a fierce advocate for better mental health support.
