About the event

Ishanya is the Annual Festival of Design, Art and Technology hosted by the students of the Department of Design (DoD) at the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati.

Ishanya is the region’s largest creative festival, reflecting Guwahati’s position as the design capital of the North East. The event, which went fully virtual this year, has quickly attracted a large audience, from pan India and abroad. What started as a grassroots festival for the Department of Design, has quickly expanded and built a rapidly growing design network, driven by young designers.

The Festival is a platform for the showcase of ideas, thoughts, and projects as well as a catalyst for the growth of the creative community in the North East. The varied programme of the festival consists of design-related events, exhibitions, competitions, talks, keynotes and workshops across multiple creative disciplines. These serve to create a platform for interaction between current and aspiring design students, design professionals, industry experts, academicians and educational institutions.

The 3rd edition of Ishanya will take place in a virtual mode, and is to be held in the first week of May 2021. 

The virtual event will showcase the best of the design scene in the North East, as well as play host to exciting national and international voices, with an exhibition of over 100+ unique design projects 

The event will be a conglomeration of design and art, and the evolution of the same across cultural timelines, transcending time zones. The event aims to and is themed at creating an interactive networking design community across the country and beyond.

• The 2^nd edition of Ishanya was held during the third week of September 2020, and was the first to be held virtually. A week-long celebration themed around the Hue of Convergence. Over 1000+ people from across India attended the festival, which fostered interactions between current and aspiring design students, design professionals, the speakers, industry experts, academicians and educational institutions.

  Even though it was an online event, we had an overwhelming community response, with over 600+ audience stories tagged, 24,000+ live reactions during talks and over 2 million engagements online.
