  • About the event

Our underlying idea is to get wildlife out of the captivity of zoos and free them to the public streets where their playful, imaginative, stand-ins can be safely introduced to the public in an exciting, up-close and personally engaging encounter.

Our aim is to promote animal welfare, specifically biodiversity and conservation of endangered wildlife.

    Why should you sponsor?

For sponsors wishing to align with envrionmental responsibility, and attach their brands to highly inspiring, unique pieces which light the imagination and curiosity of the public. We expect hundreds of thousands if not millions of views from L.A. residents and visitors.

This is a high impact, long-lived event.

    Chuck Wolf

    Funny Zoo-L.A.

Our mission is to raise awareness for environmental conservation of endangered wildlife species. Think Pandas and Polar Bears.

We will be placing life-sized, huge wildlife animal sculptures around the streets of Los Angeles California from Malibu to Beverly Hills and Venice to Hollywood. Each playfully painted by local L.A. artists Think of a ten-foot tall giraffe dressed in purple polka dots and pearls, standing on a street corner in Beverly Hills. Think of a huge golden horned rhinoceros plastered in a thousand real one-dollar bills appearing in a canoe in the grass in Venice.

If you can’t see attaching your brand to these surprisingly out-of place, unique, memorable, curious, imaginative, and awe inspiring creative creatures, stop reading now. If these gorillas, dolphins, ostriches, horses and elephants, don’t stand out and capture attention in L.A. nothing else you're doing will either.

For brands with vision, seeking to align with social and environmental responsibility, including animal welfare, with demographics including children to parents and adults of all ages, this is your chance to get in on Funny Zoo-L.A.

Here’s how. Sponsors purchase a sculpture, and have it painted by an artist; either one you know or one of many on our roster. You’re in. Sculptures will be placed around L.A. every month from June to November.

What do you get? You get the sculpture for one. It’s yours to keep as a mascot for trade shows and events, promotional and marketing materials, your corporate lobby or your president’s back yard.  That’s different, and worth the price of admission to Funny Zoo.

Slap your name on it. We do not allow logos on the animals, but each is displayed with a custom plaque identifying the sponsoring company and the artist who created it. Guess what. The first thing people want to know when they encounter a bow-tied elephant on the street corner in L.A. is who put that there. Plaques get read. (We’re thinking by a few hundred thousand people, maybe milions).

The second thing people do when they happen upon a brightly painted Lion in Hollywood, is they jump on its back and start snapping selfies. Those go immediately onto social media. But you are probably ahead of me.

And I’m ahead of myself.  Before your animal is placed out for display on its four hundred pound anchor base, somewhere in L.A., we swing it by your place, so you all can take some selfies. You, your staff (sure get your employees involved, they actually like play as well as work) your vendors, partners, clients, prospects, parents, invite them all. Do an announcement or press release if you like. Everyone loves a cocktail party. We like French food, and wine. Hope you do too, because that’s what we’re bringing to the Artist’s Unveiling Reception at your place. We will bring the artist too, if we can. No promises, but they do like to be on-hand to pull the sheet off. Maybe the media will cover your event. If not, don’t worry, we have a hunch they will cover ours.

You should plan on posting some of this on social media. Put it on your website maybe. We will. We include all sponsors on our online site, social media, press and print. Print is about dead, as you have probably heard, but we will be printing a full-color Exhibition Catalog with your art piece, crediting you and the artist. Not just a credit, but a full page. We’ll get you some copies so you can place them casually around your offices and home.

We do all the heavy lifting. We'll just take your huge sculpture and plunk it down somewhere it clearly doesn’t belong. Traffic usually slows down to look at these things as we transport them in an open pickup down the L.A. freeways. Once located, people stop, kids play on them, people take pictures, then they get shared. If you have a social media staffer, tell them ahead of time that you are doing this. They can make a hash#tag campaign for you, maybe some games or contests. You might even grow your mailing list if you interact with your animal’s friends.

When fans go crazy. Sometimes they just want a piece of your celebrity status. We saw this with Elvis and the Beatles. Love can hurt. We have trained medics ready to remedy maintenance and repair issues while your animal is in the field on the streets of L.A.. We would call it a Maintenance Contract, but that would just be extra paperwork, so it’s a simple line item we include.

This would be great if it was just for one day. But it’s super-great because it goes on for months and months. After your animal has delivered more marketing and promotional mileage than humanly possible, we are going to snatch all of these creatures off the streets, leaving the general public screaming for more in December.

If you have a home for your new original art piece, we will drop him/her there for you. If not, you may consider helping some other wildlife animals out by auctioning for charity. We plan a black tie gala auction benefiting California Wildlife Center, who rescues, the sick and stranded sea lions from our coasts here in SoCal. We hope some celebrities show up for it and our PR firm, Splash PR says they are good at making that happen. You might be the most famous person there, bring some friends from work, and wear something nice. A portion of the charity auction is probably tax deductible, but we’re not corporate tax accountants, we are Funny Zoo.

Who is Funny Zoo? Animal lovers for one. Bernard Scoffié and Jean-Fabrice Brunel are the founders. Scoffié is the current Vice President of the ''30 Million D'Amis'' animal foundation and formerly served as producer for a popular French TV show about pets. Both have professional and extensive backgrounds in event planning through their Malibu-based company, French Pacific Events, they successfully debuted the Funny Zoo public art movement to great aplomb in Marseille, France in 2013.  They Mayor loved it. Funny Zoo U.S. plans other citywide events, but L.A. is home base and this is the premier U.S. Exhibition. L.A. is ready. There has not been a public art exhibition of this kind here since 2001.
