Evolution: A Gemini & Taurus Affair,

About the event

Evolution, set on May 20 to be a celebration of life for Geminis and Tauruses. For me having successfully left my 9 to 5 and started my own business as a DJ and musician, I also want open doors and to celebrate those who have invested in my development, find a fun way for people to get outside of the houses, and most importantly create safe space that encourages everyone to live themselves unapologetically, celebrate their own accomplishments, and find community in moments that are difficult.

Evolution, which will be an annual event is a night bringing some of the greatest DJs from around the city, and in years to come the world. It is a night of explore sounds of Hip-Hop, R&B, Afrobeat, Soca and Dancehall, bringing people together in song and nostalgia.

In addition to the special guest artist and DJs, attendees will have a place to write out the goals they want to see accomplished, on our mural borad which I will use at the end of the event to help build community and share stories on my new platform of SpeakTruth

• 6 Months into Djing full time I was voted the Best DJ in NYC for 2022 Kwanzaa Krawl where the voting public consisted of over 5000 attendees across Brooklyn and Manhattan.
• I am a member of the Blacklist DJ collective which host events all over New York City and is most famous for the International Brunch Series which sees over 1000 attendees every Sunday
• The DJs selected for this event includes international talent that has performed all over the world including the United Kingdom, Trinidad, Toronto, Miami, Barbados to name a few.
• One of the intended DJs, performed in front of a sold out audience at the Barclays Center, this past September.

• Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn is a hotspot for New York City nightlife, just six blocks away from the Barclays Center, it is often frequented by celebrities and guest who might be coming from a show or basketball game.

Impact/social significance

• #SpeakTruth, is affirmation, it is our simple way of saying "I see you, you are valued, and you are heard.

• #SpeakTruth seeks to encourage individuals of all ethnic, cultural, and gender  backgrounds to speak about their lived experiences unapologetically.

• #SpeakTruth is to change the landscape of culture though conversation.

• Speak truth is a movement that is black, queer, feminist, anti-racist, and the brainchild of a black boy, who daily wants to build and share space through eventplanning and being in community.

Gregory Wilson

I am 28, I am a Brooklyn native, born and raised.

I fell in love with music listening to Marvin Gaye in the backseat of my dad's car as he drove me to daycare. Singing in school, I got to perform on Sesame Street with Alicia Keys (Elmo's Christmas Countdown if interested), With the New York Philharonic at Carnagie Hall and at a gala event with John Legend. Years later I found producing and song writting for myself, recording music of my own and in 2019 (after 2 EPs and a few years later) I threw two sold out shows in New York, one at Paperbox in Bushwick and the other at pianos in Lower Manhattan.

However it was during the pandemic that DJing, a hobby that really was my side hustle in college proved to be the door that enabled me to be self-sufficient. Gigs that were originally me accompanying a friend, or the occasional work party at my own office, turn into guest sets in Saint martin, being voted best DJ in NYC in 2022 and three residencies which introduced me to new friends from all walks of life on a weekly basis

Prior to starting my dream career as a DJ and musician, I spent five years working in philanthropy and before that, and as a economics major (with a racial justice concentration) at Dickinson College. Working two years in education, three years in Racial equity/ prison reform, I understand how to move between worlds, I understand the importance of image and branding to a corporation, and I understand what it means to be an employee for, organizations and how the two often sit side-by-side in conflict. Moreover, as a black creative, college educated with a corporate background, In my livelyhood and events I want to speak about the challenges that exist of how we (as humans) often do not take a moment to pause, reflect on life because for many of us (particularly in New York) I need to move fast impacts our ability to enjoy life as it is, and make life a little bit better for everyone we share this planet with.
