About the event
This years Christmas light show for the peace gardens will be vastly different from the mundane unimaginative lights of the previous years this will be a Christmas lights Spectacular featuring; Water jet arches, Large scale projection; illuminated trees and plants and interactive lighting displays!
The overall picture, looking down over the Peace gardens will be one of an ocean of colour within an urban winter landscape.
As you walk towards the Peace gardens from Fargate, surrounded by people, you’ll walk past the town hall, as you round the corner you’ll see the steps leading down into the peace gardens lit with swirling projections of snowflakes and ice crystals, in shades of wintery open whites and cool blues.
As you walk between the Fountains, down the steps and into the peace gardens, the projected snowflakes and crystals will play over you, making you almost feel covered in invisible snow, you’ll look around and see each of the surrounding flowerbeds lit with lights of varying sizes and colours, which compliment the tree or plant it is focussed on. This will create a ‘boundary’ style effect around the edge of the gardens.
As you walk further down into the gardens you’ll see strings of festoon lighting radiating out from a central point to posts around the edge of the gardens. These strings will be filled with spherical paper lanterns in sizes varying from tiny to huge, all lit from inside in warm white; hanging in varying lengths from the string.
As you look to your left, you’ll see the monolithic structure of the town hall, almost symbolically ‘watching over’ proceedings. The main building washed in cosy deep amber from the uplighting, several windows highlighted from within with a stark white light, providing contrast; the main turrets and four ornate square windows overlooking the peace gardens washed in a bright Christmassy red.
The white lanterns will remind you of the crisp cleanness of snowfall and a snowy landscape, the elegant complimentary colours around the edges will help you remember your warm cosy home, the town hall next to you providing a natural contrast between old and new, allowing you to appreciate anew the ornate architecture and the projected snowflakes playing over you make you feel part of the spectacle. This lends a degree of interactivity to the show, making it an experience you will never forget!
