Brighton Dance Festival is a national summer dance event focused on inspiring young dancers and pre-professional artists. The two week event attracts dancers from across Michigan and beyond who want to intensively study contemporary dance. The festival includes 10 days of classes taught by industry professionals, plus informal choreography showcases, professional dance performances, improvisation jam sessions and more. The festival culminates in our Student Showcase, featuring over 75 students performing works they have learned during their time at BDF. All performances and special events are open to the public, and a portion of all concert ticket sales are donated to local arts organizations. To date, BDF has donated over $31,000 to the Brighton High School theater, plus the Cleary University Wellness Center.
We need sponsorship support to help our educational programs thrive! This summer, we have added a new "Artists in Residence" program to the festival. BDF will host the nationally touring company Christopher K. Morgan & Artists, based in Washington D.C. Your sponsorship will make this new educational initiative come to life! Our students will have the opportunity to work closely with the directors and dancers of the CKM&A company, plus receive an up-close look at life in a professional company. With the growth of our programs comes added expenses and fees that we do not want to pass on to our students. The goal of BDF is to offer affordable and inspiring arts education opportunities. This can only happen with the generous support of our sponsors and community partners.
Kathy King here! I am the founder and director of Brighton Dance Festival. This event has truly been a labor of love and passion for me over the years, and I have witnessed first hand how life-changing BDF is for not only myself, but also my colleagues and students. I have been teaching dance for 15 years, with most of that time spent in Michigan. In 2006, I founded a non-profit professional dance company, which ran until 2014 when I closed the doors to focus my time and energy on Brighton Dance Festival. My work as an educator in metro-Detroit earned me a place on the Crain's Detroit Business "Twenty in their 20s" list of 2013. I'm grateful to be able to share my love of teaching, while also building a strong arts business that can serve the needs of dance students in our community. I hope you'll join me in this journey!
