The Black Women's Conference 2017 will be held on Saturday, 6th of May 2017, at University of London.
The conference is organised by the Black Women's Forum UK (BWFUK). The BWFUK is run solely by volunteers with the aim of offering a safe space to share, empower and engage with women of African, Asian, Arab and Caribbean descent in the UK.
These spaces allow a different form of empowerment, particularly for women because not only do we face issues with sexism, patriarchy, misogyny, but questions of race are just as paramount in the complex discourse. Borrowing from Audre Lourde, "at times, the myth of sameness can actually be the thing which destroys us." For this reason, we recognise the need and importance of Black self-organisation. This space also offers numerous informative links which we hope will motivate young black people to discover or deepen their knowledge of Black women's contributions throughout history.
Every year over the past 4 years - with the support of the Black Women’s Forum UK’s volunteers, along with other supporters, we have hosted a free one-day annual conference for Women of African, Asian, Arab and Caribbean descent across the UK. Last year, more than 400 women of colour from across the UK attended our conference, and we want to continue this great work.
Please see our conference website for more details: https://blackwomensforumuk.wordpress.com/gallery/
The aim of this year’s conference is to celebrate the achievements of women of colour across the UK, and we are expecting up to 500 women of colour. We want to highlight the achievements of our sisters and inspire attendees to celebrate and uplift each other; whilst amplifying the enterprises created by, and for, women of colour.
We are eagerly looking forward to an even greater success at this year’s, however, we require sponsorship, in order to cover costs such as travel and speaker expenses, a crèche, food and beverages on the day and for conference materials.
Your sponsorship will benefit your organisation in various areas such as; visibility and links with a valuable cause. We are also open to discussing other opportunities for ongoing links, networks and information sharing.
We hope you will consider the possibility of partnering with us for the purpose of continuing this great work while benefitting your organisation through visible association with a much needed social enterprise.
Please get in touch to discuss further details as we would greatly appreciate the opportunity to inform you of the types of support we need, as well as discussing the types of sponsorships you offer.
