  • About the event

On November 9th, 2017, Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC), a non-profit based in NYC dedicated to rescuing wasted food to eliminate hunger, will celebrate our second annual Winter Gala to support the drastic growth in our organization! We invite you to be a part of this celebration by serving as a Sponsor. After last year's successful evet in the Financial District, we are hosting another Gala - a night of good food, drinks, and music featuring a silent auction and speaker's presentations.

With your help, RLC will become the world’s most widely used solution for companies and individuals to eliminate food waste in their communities, make food rescue sustainable and universal, and hunger a thing of the past.

    Why should you sponsor?

Rescuing Leftover Cuisine appeals to wide audiences! The Steps Event is hosted by our Board, business professionals who have wide friend groups and networks. Their varied backgrounds in diverse fields would help you tap into multiple networks.

Moreover, every day volunteers and food business partners use our website to facilitate food rescue events - leading to high visibility for your company. We have over 150 partners from food business to tech companies. Our 300 active volunteers are primarily millenials who are active through technology and towards their community.

Your sponsorship would begin a mutually beneficial relationship between your company and RLC. We will work with you to market your company to our audiences. Help promote local grassroots movements and tackle the issues of food waste and hunger in your community!

    Robert Lee

As a child of Korean immigrant parents who once struggled to provide food security to family, I understand what it’s like to be hungry as a young child. My father was a civil engineer in Korea, and after our move to the U.S. started working in supermarket management. My mother become a homemaker due to the language barrier and limited job opportunities for immigrants. They placed a high value on my education, at times struggling to keep enough food on the table for the family of four and refusing to let what they brought home go to waste.

I learned the importance of food waste prevention early in my life. Experiencing hunger firsthand, I knew that I wanted to prevent my family from facing that struggle again. I first worked at a hedge fund during his junior and senior years of high school. Because I enjoyed the experience, I decided to enroll at New York University's Stern School of Business for my undergraduate degree.

Upon graduation, I accepted a job offer from J.P. Morgan, while working part-time on launching RLC. Armed with lessons learned at J.P. Morgan, I launched Rescuing Leftover Cuisine, a nonprofit organization that targets both the prevention of quality food waste and putting an end to hunger, in New York City in the summer of 2013. I left J.P. Morgan three years ago to run RLC full-time, using seed money I and co-founder Louisa Chen won at a venture competition during their senior year at NYU, as well as corporate donations from my former employer.
