  • About the event

The Warwick Economics Summit is one of the largest student-run academic conferences in Europe. Now in its 18th year, and with the help of the university's economics department, the Summit has evolved in form and stature into a truly international forum where talented students from various universities listen to some of the world's most revered and inspirational speakers.

The Summit's focus goes far beyond the field of economics, encompassing the broader spheres of the social sciences, including development, politics, psychology and international relations. It is this wide scope and diversity that sets the Summit apart from other events, ensuring that it remains relevant and in tune with today's wider issues.

    Why should you sponsor?

Every year, universities from across the globe select delegations to represent their schools at the Warwick Economics Summit.  Last year, UCLA was the only American delegation to attend.  Not only were we representing UCLA, but also the greater United States.  As a result, we brought a unique perspective to the conference, and had the ability to impact other, international students at a large scale.

We want you to join us.  Our team of 10 delegates was specifically selected from a large pool of applicants on the grounds of curiosity, perspective, and merit.  Unfortunately, the total cost of flights, hotels, and transportation comes out to $600 per person, and as college students, it can be difficult to scrape up the cash.  We will be representing you at a summit occupied with curious students, eager to explore new thoughts and business, and to give back to the community.  It will make the perfect breeding ground for innovative ideas.

Our delegation is prepared to work hard to spread the word of our sponsors.  We encompass students from all fields - physics, political science, sociology, economics, and more - giving us diverse perspectives on how to tackle problems. Your help is much appreciated.  Thank you for your time.

    Lucas Machado

My name is Lucas and I'm a Junior studying Mathematics and Physics at UCLA.  My passion for economics came about when I was trying to find ways to make money so that I could pay off my own college tuition, as coming from another country made it a bit more difficult.  I came across the stock market as a means to do so, which lead to a greater passion for economics.  My goal is to be able to build sufficient capital through my trading so that I can start funding micro-loan projects in third world countries.  This summit would provide an opportunity for the entire delegation to learn about innovation in Economics throughout the world, and how it can better society.

Along with a partner of mine, I interviewed and selected the entire delegation that UCLA is taking to the summit.  The $600 per peson can be hefty for a college student.  I can guarantee that each student attending is driven by curiosity, and ready to work hard to spread the word of our sponsors.  Any bit of money can go a long way.  Thank you in advance.

    Best,

    Lucas
