The Purdue VEX Robotics Regional Qualifier Competition brings together robotics teams from all over the country working to apply science, technology, engineering, and mathematic concepts into a functional competitive robot tasked with playing a unique game, using both teleoperated driver modes and preprogrammed autonomous modes. The champion of the event moves on to compete at the international level.
Your financial contribution aids in paying the team's competition enterance fees as well as travel and lodging fees while at the event. This is a fantastic opportunity for companies to advertise their business to all of those in attendance as well as in the years after the event as we continue to display your name proudly upon our t-shirts, website, robot, and much more.
Since our start as a robotics team in 2014, our team continues to grow each year as we aim to give students with a passion for robotics an opportunity to express it. We put knowledge learned in the classroom to the test through computer programming, 3D printing, mechanical design principles, and manufacturing techniques. Using VEX materials allows for quick mock-ups of design concepts and further prototyping of successful designs, which can then be integrated into the final robot build. However, VEX materials are often a limiting factor in some robot design concepts as well, so we will likely be adding parallel robotics projects in the future years, giving team members even more creative freedom.
Aside from designing and building robots for the VEX competition, many of our members are active mentors for high school students participating in robotics and STEM programs as well. One particular program is FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), an organization similar to VEX, through which many of our team members are alumni. Along with mentoring younger robotics enthusiasts, many of our team members also volunteer and referee at robotics competitions at the elementary and middle school levels.
