  • About the event

The Event involves as many Majorettes and Baton Twirlers available from around UK to come together at Birmingham to put on performances during the day, from 10:00am. At 3:15 approx all will assemble in position for World Record Attempt, however they will present a "Baton Salute", A Roll Call to remember those known and "lost" during 2018 will be read out, followed by a minutes silence. At 3:30pm the World Record Attempt will commence.

The Attempt will be verified and Certificate issued.

Twirl 4 Terry is in aid of Children In Need and in Memory of Sir Terry Wogan. It is hoped the original Certificate can get to Lady Helen Wogan. Because of Sir Terry's Irish heritage some teams are coming over from Republic of Ireland and their donations raised will be split 50/50 with Children in Need and CMRF Crumlin.

We are NOT after a donation to either Charity, it is to help with some expenses to be covered regarding the World Record Attempt. Majorettes and Baton Twirlers are Volunteer run Non Profits and own funds are having to be used to cater for Transport costs to Birmingham.

    Why should you sponsor?

To support in an age of negative news reports surrounding young people, a positive message of youngsters coming together from different Majorette Troupes and Baton Twirling Teams, bringing together the two different disciplines and bringing together two Sovereign Nations, to try to make an impact on the lives of their peers that need that special support offered by both Charities. Using their skills with a baton in a positive way. Plus on top of the practice needed for this event, being engaged in their own Fund raising for these Charities. Often these Troupes and Teams are in Competion with each other or come from different umbrella organisations. This event is bringing them all closer together, to promote the skills of Majorettes and Baton Twirlers to encourage more youngsters to become involved in something worthwhile that improves self esteem. As Volunteers we endeavour to teach new skills, teamwork with the capacity of new friends being made.

Like other organisations in our way guiding tomorrows citizens.

    Alan Trenery

I am 78 years old this year, I am of good character, Worked in Merchant Navy, Farming and Landscaped Gardening. An accident at work left me disabled but I was able to follow a passion of working with Majorettes, both my daughters were Majorettes in the1980's with one gaining experience and top ten ranking in solo events in Europe. I was a Competition Judge until early 1990's.

From then until 7 years ago, I had nothing to do with Majorettes, until my other daughter spoke to me about setting up a Majorette Troupe, which we did and with some success. The idea of Twirl 4 Terry came from her and so the seed was set on contacting as many people as possible, to us total strangers as we are a Carnival not Competition Troupe in an Association of any sort.

The money raised by participants will be paid into a Children In Need account by themselves that will give a running then final total of what was raised. The Irish teams will be doing something similar with the Irish Charity. That way neither myself or any third party will touch the money apart from us for our own Troupe.

We have come a long way and secured help along the way, it has been hard work at times but if we can make a difference to those that need help, plus show our participants the pleasure of helping others, then it will be worth it.
