  • About the event

    Entering its second year as the ONLY national adventure race series, the 2017 Happy Mutant Adventure Race Series stands alone in size, scope and geography.With seven races in eight States, four time zones and three countries the HMARS provides an approach to adventure racing that has not been seen in the US. In addition to the American teams competing each event has had an international field.

    We are producing events ranging from 30-hours long to a duration of 5 days. This variety allows the HMARS to appeal to a wide range of athletes. In keeping with our "Three A's" concept all of our events are affordable, not only in the adventure racing world but when compared to other endurance events. Our races are accessible to mainstream travel. And each and every location provides a strong sense of adventure!

         HMARS: Mojave Expedition Race

         2017 North American Qualifier for the Adventure Racing World Series

         2017 Qualifier for the North American Adventure Race Series

         2017 Regional Qualifier for the United States Adventure Association                National Championships

        With qualifying spots for three major championships to the top finishers this early season race becomes one of the most important events on the 2017 calendar. Teams from around the globe are already plannng to arrive in the Las Vegas area. This event will receive global television exposure in 149 countries, in addition to the domestic media coverage. Our social and digital media outlets will increase that exposure exponentially. A full field of 200 racers is expected for this international event.

        HMARS:Olmitz Miner

         2017 Regional USARA Qualifier

         This 30-hour event will be based out of Ottumwa, IA and will highlight southeastern Iowa.

         HMARS:Land of Enchantment

         2017 NAARS Qualifier

         2017 Regional USARA Qualifier

         Returning to the Taos, NM area this race will serve as the final tune-up for an international field as they make final preperations for the AR World Championships in July.

    July 14-16

         HMARS: Lazy Days

         Our second annual race in Virginia will be hosted by the Lazy Days Winery and features the Jefferson National Forest.

         The northeast region features an area that has been ignored by the adventure racing community and we are excited to make a grand introduction.

         We are excited to bring a multi-day expedition race back to the Baja region in the spirit of the Baja Travesia from the mid-2000's.

    December 29

         HMARS: Puerto Rico

          This 30-hour event will showcase the wonders of Puerto Rico and culminate with one of the best New Year's Eve parties.
     

     

    Why should you sponsor?

    The HMARS is ambitious and takes place on a grand scale with the goals creating top-shelf events while increasing the public awareness of the sport.

    Currently our Social and Digital media outlets average 20,000 unique visits during our events and just under 5,000 on non-event weeks.

    Our unique approach to in-race coverage will be brought to our broadband network this coming fall. This opens an avenue for sponsor-based commericals, logo embedding and featured live streams.

    We are reinventing the sport here in the US with the plan of relevancy to the general public by capitalizing on relationships within the endurance community.

    In addition to the broadband network, we are currently negotiating with three networks to produce a non-scripted reality show based around the Series.

    In 2016 the Happy Mutant Adventure Race Series has been featured in six newspapers, four regional magazines, four television stations, six international websites, four on-line magazines and one national magazine.

    Based on the exposure metrics from our on-line and social media outlets we have seen a 320% growth in our event exposure from the start of the year. Our redesigned website (www.thehappymutant.com) has not only seen an increase in hits, but the e-tail store has seen a 175% increase in on-line sales for our current sponsors.

    Toby Evans

    FIGJAM LLC has been producing adventure races and endurance events since 2009 with the goal of creating Affordable, Accessible Adventures for the general public. With 45 events under his belt, all aspects of the HMARS have been tried and true.

    Toby Evans, CEO and Series Director, followed up a successful professional track and field career with an entrance into the sport of adventure racing (a team oriented, non-motorized sport where a non-marked course is navigated with a map and compass while using mountain bikes, kayaks and feet to reach the finish line) during Mark Burnett's Eco-Challenge New Zealand in 2001. Building on that initial experience and the subsequent years of racing spawned the need for a domestic race series.

    Athletically, Evans has represented the United States of America in international competition, is a multi-time All-American (track and field, duathlon, triathlon), has been ranked in the World's Top-10 in duathlon and adventure racing.

    The HMARS support staff includes Kaori Funahasi (Media Coordinator), Dr. Aubrey Remmers (Medical), Jay Foley (Climbing Specialist), Rob Remmers (Mountain Bike Coordinator), Dale Kurth (Volunteer Coordinator), Clifford White (Social Media).

Presenting Sponsor

This stands as the highest level in the HMARS Sponsorship Family. The sole sponsor at this level will receive the "HMARS Presented By" Title. The Presenting Sponsor will be included in the comprehensive media, marketing and promotional materials for the entire Series. Benefits include projected media (social, digital, traditional) exposure to more than 100,000 households. Sponsor name/logo will be partnered with all references to the HMARS including, but not limited to digital and printed materials, media references, public appearances and all series related Happy Mutant products (clothing, signage, banners, etc). The presenting sponsor logo will be center positioned on the racer bib jersey. Presenting sponsor will receive prime placement in the pre-race expo for a booth to sell/promote their products. Sponsor will also be entitled to a team entry (valued at $15,000.00) to each HMARS event in 2017. Sponsor logo/banner will be part of the back drop for the official pre-race team photographs. Sponsor signage will proclaim the start and finish lines as theirs. Sponsor will receive broadband network commercial (sponsor must produce) time during the episodic show. Sponsor representatives will receive VIP credentials during all HMARS events. If applicable, the sponsor's product(s) will be offered via drop ship through the HMARS E-tail store. The HM staff will conduct and produce a video product review of the sponsor's product(s) where applicable.

Gold Package

All Gold Level sponsors will receive team entries into all HMARS events ($15,000.00 value), logo placement on the racer bib jersey, on-site vendor expo space to sell or promote product/services, signage/banners placed at start and finish lines. Additional benefits include projected exposure to 100,000 unique households through social, digital and traditional media forms. Gold level sponsors will be the official sponsors of the live leader board and the race administration head quarters (live streaming capability from these two locations). Where applicable, sponsor's product(s) will be promoted through the HMARS E-tail store on a drop-ship fulfillment level. Where applicable the HM staff will conduct and produce video-based product reviews of the sponsor's product(s). The sponsor will be promoted via social media and a url link from the HMARS website. At the Gold level, sponsor(s) will be credited with being the sponsor of the post-race party.

Silver Package

All Transition Areas will fall under Silver Level sponsors. Each transition will be named after a sponsor at this level. Typically, our events have 6-10 such areas. TA's are where the teams switch from one activity to another, eat, sleep and generally have the most visible activity. Where applicable, the HMARS staff will broadcast live from TAs. When this occurs the TA sponsor logo/banner will always be in view. Silver level sponsors receive a location within the pre-race expo to sell and/or promote their product(s). Where applicable these products will be sold through the HMARS E-tail store on a drop ship agreement. The HM staff will conduct and produce video product reviews of the sponsor's product(s). Sponsor banner/signage will be displayed throughout the event and on the HMARS website. Through the HMARS social, digital and traditional media outlets we project potential exposure to more than 100,000 unique households.

Bronze (In-Kind) Package

Sponsors at this level have options to reach the $5,000.00 value. In-kind product, cash, or a combination of the two can be negotiated. All sponsors at this level will have a spot in the pre-race expo to sell or promote their product(s). Sponsor signage/banners will be displayed at all events and on the HMARS website. Where applicable Sponsor products will be offered through the HMARS E-tail store on a drop ship arrangement. The HM staff will conduct and produce video product reviews of sponsor's product(s).
