    Queer Short Films Have Unique Voices!

    The Bush Films presents a monthly film series that features more than 90 films annually in 12+ screenings,  representing more than 15 countries and people of all ages, identities, and abilities. We are a home for LBTQ+ filmmakers and a haven for LBTQ+ audiences.

    The Bush Films is the only intersectional film series in New York City that focuses exclusively on films for and about queer women, trans, and non-binary people. We provide a platform for filmmakers and connect them with audiences that want to see themselves reflected and represented in cinema

    Since summer 2018 The Bush Films has brought the best in queer media to New York City audiences, and now welcomes more than 840 attendees annually, including representatives from the local and national film industry.

    We knew how much of a need there was for an inclusive space serving queer women, trans, and non-binary people with an interest in film and a desire to see themselves represented within it. We decided to create the kind of community space and representation that we had been searching for. The Bush Films has grown far beyond our initial expectations and has become a welcoming space for our community to gather and discuss film and representation.

    Because we believe that quality representation is important, intersectionality is crucial at The Bush Films. We are dedicated to making sure that queer people of varying races, cultures, gender identities, religions and political beliefs can come to The Bush and find resonance with the films.

    The Bush Films

    In 2018 Kaina Dominguez founded The Bush Films, an intersectional film series dedicated to showcasing work about and for queer women, trans and non-binary people. She provides a platform for filmmakers and connect them with audiences that want to see themselves reflected and represented in cinema.

    Because she believes that quality representation is important, the Bush Films is dedicated to finding the best films by queer women, trans and non-binary people, and making those films accessible to a community that is interested in the content but might have difficulty finding it on their own.

    For every screening, The Bush invites the filmmakers of the program to participate in a Q&A after the screening. Encouraging audiences to learn about these filmmakers and support them directly.

    Kaina Dominguez is an Emmy Award winner latina Filmmaker. She is the founder and creative director of the production company Imaginarium Lab (iLab). Prior to iLab, she directed, produced and edited over 150 videos such as commercials, TV promos, interviews, Social video marketing and music videos for major clients including HBO, AXN, HONDA, Magnolia Pictures, E! Entertainment TV, Lexus, Amtrak, HOLA TV, California Lottery and Sony Picture Entertainment. Few years after graduating from the Central University of Venezuela, where she studied Mass Communication, Kaina moved to New York and started her production company. Combining her experience in creative copywriting and filmmaking she handles many production responsibilities comfortably.

    From concept to delivery, Kaina is involved in every aspect of the filmmaking process, and she strives to bring fresh energy and innovative ideas to every project.
