Speak Truth Summit 2020,

Chicago, Illinois, United States Chicago, Illinois, United States

  • About the event

Speak Truth sets out to give voice and visibility to the state of women of color in the United States through building an intersectional community among WoC, centering their truths where their voices are left out. Speak Truth also provides progressive, equity-focused, and socially just thought-leadership and education, and activates allies and partners around issues particularly and uniquely affecting WoC throughout the year.

Our Summit is the culmination of this work, providing an opportunity for WoC - ranging from their late twenties to mid-sixties, in search of resources, healing, and community - to explore means of personal, professional, and civic empowerment.

In order to equip WoC with the tools and knowledge to advocate for themselves and provide thought-leadership to allies and partners, Speak Truth Summit focuses on the following areas:

    1. Health Care & Wellness
    2. Workplace
    3. Personal Advocacy & Development

The one-day conference will include an inspiring keynote presentation from a leader in women's advocacy, four power panel discussions, on-site self-care opportunities, vendor market and resource fair, and a networking lunch.

As a member of the Speak Truth Squad, our mission to lift up the voices of women of color and bring visibility to our unique experiences is deeply personal. By trade, I am a consultant, data analyst, and technologist working to empower organizations to make data-driven decisions. I aim to combine my process improvement experience and strong analytical background with my passion for fostering inclusive, equitable environments to do meaningful work that makes a lasting impact.

While working in technology and startup environments, my experiences validated the need for greater education around the impacts of systemic oppression in this country. I believe every person has the ability and responsibility to be a catalyst for change and am dedicated to supporting and elevating those around me and to removing obstacles for those who will come after me.

I am the founder and Strategic Lead of an affinity group for employees of color at my workplace, driving initiatives to serve and empower people of color while cultivating a company culture that values diversity and belonging. I am also an Associate Consultant with The Impact Alliance, a nonprofit organization that educates entities on fostering organizational cultures centered on diversity and inclusivity and facilitates socially just culture transformation; an enthusiastic member of the Ignite leadership community in Chicago, a group of curious and collaborative individuals committed to practicing purpose-driven leadership; and a contributor to the Kapor Center’s Diversity Advocates, a network empowering the tech community with the resources, knowledge, and connections to do pioneering work.
