Space Apps is an international hackathon that occurs over 48 hours in cities around the world. Participants are encouraged to work in teams to engage with open data to solve challenges and set out innovative solutions.
By hosting the event in Montreal, the MSSA hopes to provide a platform for Montreal space enthusiasts to solve real-world issues, on Earth and in space.
The hackathon aims to bring recognition to a pool of talents to a national and international stage. Through this, we hope to empower and expose
our talents to active members in the industry, and generate more bidirectional interest towards Montreal as a widely-recognized space hub.
The challenge was founded by the NASA in 2012. In 2017, it counted over 25,000 participants in nearly 200 cities.
● Exemplifies principles of transparency, participation and collaboration
● Utilizes openly available data, supplied through NASA missions and
technology
● Utilizes the talent and skill of passionate volunteers from around the planet
● Advances space exploration and improve the quality of life on Earth
The Canadian Space Agency supports the event, and provides Canadian cities with additional challenges and support since 2017.
The 2018 edition, happening October 19-21, is the most promising to date, and we need your help to get this project to take off.
We are aiming to gather 150 developpers and innovators under one common passion. Your company could get to meet and know better this community, and gain visibility in the sector.
The Montreal Student Space Associations (MSSA) is rich of its experience as
the organizing committee of the Montreal Space Symposium, a conference of
350+ attendees in 2017, and the current planning of its second edition. Our members associations also have experience in hosting hackathons, notably the
first Canadian ActInSpace (European Space Agency’s hackathon).
Our mission is simple - to foster interest and bring recognition to young, local talents to Canadian and international aerospace and software industry. Our sponsors gain a mutually-beneficial and sustainable partnership that will
play a vital role in mobilizing aerospace innovation in Quebec and across Canada.
