SCID's ANNUAL PRODUCT DESIGNATHON,

About the event

Our day-long event will promote collaboration between students from different disciplines. Unlike other hackathons that are primarily focused on software solutions, our Designathon will promote the idea generation and drafting of an entire product through human-centered product design and design thinking methodologies. The day will start with a keynote speaker, which rolls into the four-hour main event, followed by thought-provoking mini-games and an awards ceremony to reward students with the most innovative and relevant ideas.

Why should you sponsor?

Historically, our club has been able to host successful “Designathons” and we want to continue to improve our event in the future. Our goal is to improve the experience of participants, spectators and judges in order to create an improved and developed version of our event. We also plan to broaden the scope of our contest so that we may include more students from varying backgrounds. We want to offer our participants better supplies and materials so they can impress the judges with their work.

We will offer the sponsors the ability to promote their companies in whatever way they prefer based on the level of investment. We are also looking for individuals from Silicon Valley who would be willing to join us as judges. Sponsors will be able to nominate a judge representing their company and SCID would be honored to host them.

During the fall of 2014, four Santa Clara University students took a product design course and subsequently noticed a void in the engineering curriculum. We created the Santa Clara Innovation & Design club to encourage students to work together using product design philosophies and teach students about the innovation process through realistic applications not always available in the classroom. After just three years as a club (and with the promise of free pizza at every meeting!), we have more than 300 active members coming from dozens of majors throughout the university. SCID helps merge engineering, business and design by creating a space for everyone to pool ideas and create the best solutions to issues affecting our everyday lives.
