Runway For A Cure DC: Living Out Loud,

Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown Hotel, Washington, District of Columbia, United States Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown Hotel, Washington, District of Columbia, United States

  • About the event

Runway for a Cure DC Incorporated is a 501(c)(3) public charity that gives back to organizations and individuals who are making a difference in the lives of women and men who have been diagnosed with breast cancer or are in need of mammogram screening in underserved communities.

Our donations are used to pay for the mammogram screenings of uninsured patients and to provide financial support for survivors who struggle to pay their household financial obligations.

This year we’re looking to triple our donations to the cause so that more women or men can get screened, know their status early, and seek treatment because early detection saves lives. The average 3D mammogram screening can cost up to $350. Last year, we were able to donate to the Breast Care For Washington Fund to help cover costs associated with mammogram screening for up to 6-7 patients. This year our goal is to increase that number to cover the cost of mammogram screening for 15-20 uninsured women or men. We are also raising funds to cover initial operating costs for the new Mobile Mammogram Program offered by Breast Care for Washington DC.

    Why should you sponsor?

Sponsors will be in the position to generate sales/service opportunities and market their brand to an audience of up to 300 attendees.

Our sponsors will be able to market their services, spread the word about their community involvement, and expand their reputations as organizations that promote breast cancer awareness who are in support of early detection.

    Raymia Henderson

Hello, my name is Raymia Henderson. I am the Executive Director of Runway For a Cure DC Incorporated. I am a Fashion Designer, Stylist, local business owner, and native Washingtonian who started Runway For A Cure DC after supporting my parents through my father's Prostate Cancer treatment plan as well as supporting one of my best friends through her winning fight with Breast Cancer.

Our annual event celebrates the life of women and men who have been affected by Cancer, particularly Breast Cancer, who are learning to be comfortable with their body during Cancer treatment, and who continue to be Fabulous Survivors in spite of their diagnosis.

Over the last two years, we have joyfully connected survivors, who feel like they are alone, with our veteran survivor models. We found that many women don't know who to talk to about their mental well being when they have been diagnosed or going through treatment. We've witnessed a band of sisterhood and a major support system develop amongst our survivor models.

Our organization was formed in DC because we want to give back to the community where we were born and raised. For two years, we've donated to programs in underserved neighborhoods where the death rate of minorty women diagnosed with Breast Cancer has risen year over year.

This event is important because we must educate women under 50, in particular, because the death rate of women in this demographic has continued to rise and Breast Cancer is the second leading cause of death in women next to lung cancer.
