Rucks & Tucks,

Club Café, Boston, Massachusetts, United States Club Café, Boston, Massachusetts, United States

  • About the event

Rucks & Tucks is Boston Ironsides’ largest seasonal fundraiser. This semi-annual drag lip sync battle is entering its third year, and each event grows larger and more successful than the previous. The fall of 2018 boasted nearly 200 attendees and raised nearly $4,000. This year, with increased planning efforts, and community partnerships from dedicated individuals and businesses, we have increased our expected reach to 225 attendees and hope to raise over $5,000.

This is a fun event that gets the team and the community involved. Teammates compete in hilarious amateur drag lip syncing while the community is encouraged to cheer their hearts out and vote for their favorite Queen. One particularly sought after community engagement opportunity is a judge’s seat for the lip syncing competition. Our panel of esteemed judges are recruited from well know local celebrities or individuals who work for organizations that support the Boston LGBT community. This is an excellent engagement opportunity for companies and organizations to reach a captive audience that may have been previously untapped. Community support for the event and team are also garnered through sponsorships and donations of individuals and local businesses.

    Why should you sponsor?

Boston Ironsides RFC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in good standing, and all donations, monetary or in-kind, are fully tax deductible. As an active nonprofit organization, sponsorship is critical to our organizational growth and the success of this exciting event. To ensure that all who wish to play for the Ironsides can play, regardless of their individual financial situation, the Ironsides rely on key fundraising efforts such as Rucks & Tucks to provide financial support rather than through high member dues. It takes a significant amount of money purchase practice materials, rental space and grow as a team. Your monetary sponsorship, in-kind donations, and ongoing support is not only appreciated, but necessary for the continued success of the organization. As a sponsor, your company will be given exposure and advertising in the months leading to the event as well as during the event itself.

Sponsorship is a prime opportunity for you to show you are “with us” on and off the field. By pledging at any level, you can show your support in strengthening amateur sport during very challenging times. We have developed a series of sponsorship tiers listed below. If interested please do not hesitate to contact Mark Leonardo II (*****@****.***), as limited spaces are available for logo sponsorship opportunities.

Boston Ironsides RFC (Rugby Football Club) was formed on July 28, 2002 as the first gay men’s rugby team in New England, and still holds that place today. The Ironsides grew rapidly, and quickly became competitive in their division. This momentum culminated in May of 2006, when the Ironsides won the Bingham Bowl at the Mark Kendall Bingham Memorial World Championship. This past year, the team took second in the New England Rugby Football Union Tournament and continues to be a force to be reckoned with internationally. The team currently boasts an active roster of nearly sixty players, and for the first time this season will be competing with two full squads.

Off the field, the Boston Ironsides RFC players come from all walks of life. Gay, bi, trans, or straight; lifelong athletes, or newcomers to the sport; students, engineers, bartenders, physicians and more. Native New Englanders, transplants from all over the country, and still others from all over the world—Canada, Europe, South America, Australia. Boston Ironsides RFC celebrates these differences that make us strong and welcomes each new member that makes us even stronger.

There’s a common phrase known to everyone who plays with the Ironsides: “With you.” On the pitch, it’s a verbal reminder that you’re not running alone. That there is someone by your side, ready to receive a pass or protect you if you’re tackled. Off the pitch, it’s a way of life that has touched everyone to wear our uniform. Whether it’s finding community in a new city, developing lifelong friendships, volunteering at local nonprofits, or helping LGBT youth to build an interest in sports, everyone who comes to the Boston Ironsides RFC learns what it means to be “with you” both on and off the pitch. The Ironsides participate annually in both the Boston and Rhode Island Pride parades and is the only International Gay Rugby (IGR) affiliated rugby team in New England, the team is an enduring attraction and is well-known in the greater Boston area
