About the event

Out From The Mist is an international film, music and photography competition that raises awareness of mental illness and breaks down stigma.

It shines a light on the varied experiences people face with their mental wellbeing – from experiences of pain and suffering, caring and empathy for loved ones, through to elation of conquering obstacles.

While various competitions celebrate art as a form of therapy, Out From The Mist focuses specifically on expressions of lived experience of mental illness challenges.

Out From The Mist has now built an international community of people affected by mental illness, to share their creativity and stories, and to inspire hope and optimism for the future.

Mental Illness Fellowship is a federation of long standing member organsations, established in 1986.

We advocate for positive changes in all areas of social and public policy that impact on the quality of life of people affected, as well as families and friends. We create collaborative projects and communities of practice that support each other to be financially viable and deliver effective, quality supports.

MIFA is the backbone of Out From The Mist. MIFA works directly with the exhibition’s Creative Director to promote entries internationally, to deliver an Awards Night and an Annual Opening Exhibition during World Mental Health Day each year.
