About the event

Mums Exercise Group Australia (MEGA) aims to empower mums through free and low cost fitness events in their local community. This allows mums to come together in an environment that is free of judgement to take the time to look after their own health and wellness while meeting mums. All sessions are welcoming of children so mums can exercise knowing that their little ones are watching and learning that active living is normal. 

We encourage mums to get active with their kids by their side. We want mum to be squatting holding her little bub, doing situps while pushing her toddler on the swing and running around after the tribe :) 

Everyone who works for MEGA does so in a volunteer capacity. We currently have 15 active branches all around Australia and these branches are led by our Branch Managers. Our Branch Managers nuture and grow their branches in their free time and have never all had the chance to meet.

What we would like to do is organise a Leadership Retreat for our BMs. We want to give them the chance to all come together face to face for some learning opportunities, some relaxation and fun. We want our volunteers to know that we love them and appreciate everything they do for us.

MEGA is a social enterprise with any dollare we make being given back to our members with a view to support other groups who share our ethos. Ideally we want to be in a position to support isolated mums and those affected by domestic violence. This means that we just don't have the cash to spend on such an opportunity for our BMs and we need help.

Why should you sponsor?

This is a chance to give back to an amazing group of women who spend their free time working towards building stronger communities. 

We want to thank them as well as offer them education in areas such as engaging their local Indigenous communities, leadership and self care.

By sponsoring this event you are giving these ladies some time out to look after themselves, giving them some building blocks to go and expand on their local branches and hopefully also their personal lives. 

Melissa Sole

My name is Melissa and I am one of the 2 Directors of MEGA. My other Director is Jennelle McAppion.

I started with MEGA when I opened the Illawarra Branch. I had gone from being a very active person pre children to someone I didn't recognise after my 2nd baby. I didn't have the money or time to engage in fitness like I did prior to kids so needed to find a new fit. I stumbled across MEGA Canberra and from there was asked to expand MEGA into my local community. It took 3 months of talking to myself on facebook and organising walks that no-one showed up to for the Illawarra to click and see what I was trying to do. From there my local branch exploded and now has 2,000 active mums on board. I was asked by Jenn to step up and assist her at a national level last year so I have left my lovely little branch and spend my spare time helping to grow this amazing group.

 

I have 2 little guys under my wing and I also work 4 days a week as a Radiation Therapist at my local Cancer Care Centre. MEGA happens in my lunch breaks and once the kids are asleep at night time (my poor husband gets to watch alot of Netflix in the evening!!). I'm not too sure how I can convince you to trust me over the interweb - but there's my story. I won't lie - we would LOVE to have someone on board who can see what we are trying to achieve.
