  • About the event

Camp Kesem is a national non-profit organization, driven by passionate college student leaders, that provides free one-week sessions of overnight camp to children who have been affected by a parents' cancer. There are currently over 80 Camp Kesem chapters at universities from coast to coast, and just last summer we served over 6,000 affected children.

Every year, each university chapter hosts their own fundraising gala entitled "Make the Magic," during which we raise the majority of money we need in order to make camp happen. In particular, this year marks Northwestern’s eighth Make the Magic. It is an exciting night which seeks to celebrate everything that makes our organization so special, including a dinner for guests and an extensive program with a speech from Camp Kesem CEO, Jane Saccaro, and testimonials from counselors and camper families. The event will be held on May 5, 2017 at Prairie Production in the West Loop (http://www.prairieproduction.net) and we hope to have 200 individuals in attendance.

As a student run organization, we rely heavily on the generous support of individuals and businesses in order to reach our fundraising goal and thus make camp happen.

    Why should you sponsor?

Over 5+ million children have been touched by a parents cancer, however their struggles often go unacknowledged. Due to their families situation, these children often live in a world surrounded by uncertainty in which they are forced to grow up quickly. Camp Kesem is currently the only organization dedicated to serving this population of children, and it's impact is staggering: over 98% of parents believe that Kesem has had a positive impact on their family.

Our Make the Magic event attracts many prominent Chicago philanthropists and Northwestern alumni. We are dedicated to making sure our sponsors are amply recognized at our event by being listed on our event slideshow, in our programs, and on each table. Sponsors will also be recognized orally at the event during our main programming. Additionally, depending on the level of the donation, sponsors have the unique opportunity this year to have their organization logo printed on our Camp Kesem t-shirts, which are worn by all campers and counselors, and which will then be photographed throughout the week of camp. These photos will be posted daily on our facebook page and shared throughout our community. These t-shirts are then brought home with each child, so the publicity for your organization can extend far beyond the week of camp.

We are happy to discuss in more detail the opportunities that are available at your level of giving, and if there is specific oral recognition or description which you would like presented at the event. We are extremely grateful to our sponspors and are want to provide them with the best visibility possible.

At camp we go by the names of Cheddar and Elmo and we are this years' Make the Magic Coordinators. Kesem is dedicated to giving its' campers a weeklong escape, and in order to do so counselors and campers alike pick their own unique names to go by at camp. Both of us have attended camp as counselors for 3 years, and have served on Camp Kesem's executive board in various positions for at least 2 years. Camp is hands down our favorite week of the year! We are extremely organized and dedicated to responding promptly to all inquiries. Kesem is all about family, and we see our sponsors and event attendees as integral members of our community.
