International Cultural Festival 2017,

About the event

The International Cultural Festival is hosted by the International Cultural Festival Committee every year. This year the festivities shall commence with a speech by the ISN Board and a quiz on all sorts of facts related to the countries of the world. This year the International Cultural Festival shall have the international Bazaar, all types of traditional products are presented, ranging from typical foods and drinks to traditional clothing and flags, and from figures from national television shows for children to tourist brochures.

The ISN Leiden Cultural Festival started because we believe in the integration of the internationals and the Dutch. We decided the best way to solve this problem is to bring everyone under one roof. Participants from all corners of the globe bring food, dance, music, games, and much more to represent the traditions and history of their home countries. Each country team has a display stand for food, small games, and information. A stage is set up for performances of the song, dance, skits, and any other kind of creative entertainment. Separate rooms are used for workshops, where teams show how to write their alphabet, give language lessons, instruct a traditional dance, or any fun activity you would like to teach to the community.

The purpose of the International Cultural Festival is to educate the international students and local Leiden residents about other countries, about their geographic location, society, religion, culture, and tradition by inviting all international student groups and multiethnic student groups to this event. This is an excellent opportunity for international student groups and multiethnic student groups to promote their organization and events to the rest of the Leiden community. It is our hope to create an opportunity for students to come together to celebrate and share their rich cultural heritages with everyone in Leiden.

The International Student Network (ISN) is part of the larger Erasmus Student Network (ESN) which is one of the biggest interdisciplinary student associations in Europe, founded in 1989 to support and develop student exchange.

The main focus of ISN is on all current international and exchange students in Leiden. ISN facilitates academic, social and practical integration through activities and programmes. These activities include cultural and social events, such as trips to various destinations, language exchange, clubs to suit any interest, international dinners and parties. 

The International Cultural Festival was first organized in 2007. Last year, we celebrated 10 successful years of hosting the event in Leiden. This is the 11th edition of the festival and the new committee is giving the festival an uplift by introducing a contest amongst the participating teams, raffle draws, etc.
