About the event

The Special Events Management students of George Brown College are hosting the charity fundraising event #InstagramHeaven.  This is an event that connects attendees to art and products from various artists and brands advertised on social media sites. The event will showcase art installations, cosmetics, games, lifestyle products, creative foods, and interactive components. Attendees can interact with vendor installations and products, while also interacting with Instagram influencers that will be discussing topics at our event such as photography, social media and business opportunities.

          #InstagramHeaven aims to raise money for two charities. The first charity is the George Brown Foundation, which aims to collect money for student scholarships as recognition for hard work and dedication. The second charity is the Canadian Women’s Foundation, a charity which aims to empower women, and move forward to a country of complete equality. The #InstagramHeaven team’s goal is to raise net proceeds of $1,000 for each of these foundations.

Last year, George Brown College students raised over $30,000 for charities, and over $30,000 for the college foundation. Many past events have even had media coverage from CP24, CTV, Blog T.O. and 680 News. 

The event date is Thursday, March 29^th, 2018, from 7:00pm – 10:30pm at Daniel’s Spectrum, 585 Dundas St E. This location and time is the best for this event because will take place after work during the week, so attendees who commute downtown for school or work will already be in the area. Also, commuting attendees can easily reach the city via TTC or GO bus/train.

         The activities and installations at our event include a boozy ball pit, an interactive Instagram wall, and body paint artists, who will walk around the event and take pictures with attendees. Attendees can also shop, eat and grab a beverage at our customized bar that will feature colourful cocktails for each attendee.  We encourage guests to have an experience of a lifetime by coming to our event to expand their knowledge of social media and artistic flair.

This event is tailored to millennials who appreciate staying on top of the latest Instagram trends, and are looking to improve their Instagram feed with more artful photos. #InstagramHeaven also aims to provide businesses with the opportunity to connect to the largest growing demographic. To millennials, brand is everything. These individuals are extremely loyal to brands that are directly in-line with their own interests – some of which are social media, staying on top of trends, education, and equality. Interactive activities and installations are important at this event because Millennials prefer experiences to material products, so the association of your brand with a unique experience at our event would make it stand out to our attendees. This demographic is also known as the “instant-gratification” generation, meaning that convenience is their friend and they like to have information and products at the click of a button.

This event would be a great opportunity to reach this growing demographic, and make a memorable imprint in their mind by sponsoring an experience.

We are a group of 14 special event management students from the George Brown College. As a part of our program curriculum, we have to plan events within the Greater Toronto Area. Our event is the #InstagramHeaven, which aims to showcase all aesthetically-pleaseing trends on Instagram. We are a team of 14 females, so we chose the Canadian Women's Foundation as our additional charity, as empowering women is important to us.
