About the event

With sheer faith in humanity, an unfaltering passion to collect and share great stories, and to radiate positive vibrations as well, in September 2016, I, an ordinary 21-year-old girl, will embark on a world-record-breaking roller skate-a-thon of 6,700 miles across America—alone. In order to practice what I preach about human goodness, during this trip I will apply one strict rule: I will avoid the use of money in any form (cash or online transaction).

My voyage of love, beginning in Seattle,WA to New York City, NY, and ending in Santa Monica, CA, will span over 20 states and require roughly 4 months to complete.

While the media dutifully reports on the acts of brutal destruction that human beings are infinitely capable of committing, it often does not convey the other half of the truth. When we witness the crimes of human trafficking, terrorism, rape, and murder in our everyday lives, our minds are both consciously and subconsciously hijacked by the greatest hijacker in history–fear. It is fear that overwhelms our trust in others. It is fear that leads us to excessively employ defense mechanisms to generalize, and worse, to shun others. It is fear that favors hatred.

I strongly hold the belief that the world is a reflection of who we are, and that it is our thoughts that make us who we are. Sincerity is an intangible quality that others can feel through their innate senses. Moving about penniless for 120 days, I will not beg for money, but I will simply tap my creative juices and distribute joy to achieve free meals and accommodations from strangers. I yearn to prove that the world is indeed filled with amazing people who are naturally kind enough to care for a random stranger, and that a world of love, trust, and care can become be a reality.

I will be video journaling my experiences and uploading a weekly YouTube series to document how I manage to survive and how much fun it is when you choose to worry less and venture more! Everyday, I will be squeezing out my creative juices to earn myself a meal and accomodation from complete strangers. The money obtained from my dear sponsors will go towards the investment in equipments needed to produce the documentary, and my near-future college funds. 

Above all, since my cause is dedicated to all the strangers whom I deeply love from all over the world, I will direct any funds the public want to give (I will not be receiving any money from anyone other than my sponsors) to UNHCR, the United Nations agency for refugees that provides civilians suffering in their own countries with basic survival kits.

Perhaps vehement debates over the negative impact of immigration and the threat of terrorism have been circulating around the world for a while, but lately, these ideas have had a keen association with refugees. Equating all refugees with criminals and terrorists is absolutely wrong. My desire to assist these people has no political aspect. I simply believe that all human beings deserve the basic right to live without fear and to be able to protect their loved ones.

As long there are wars and heartless persecutions, there are innocent souls who do not choose to start the chaos, or who wish to escape from tyranny. It is fate that has cast them into their desperate situation. My skate-a-thon without money is also an attempt to understand the precarious everyday life of refugees whose future depends on the generosity of strangers.

*Because my YouTube documentary and blog envelops a very unique concept and challenge that pique the interest of people from all walks of life, from young teens to the older generation, from couch potatoes to professional atheles...Everyone I stumble upon in person each day and every audience that engage in my YouTube Channel are part of the wondrous voyage. It is doubtless that my social media followers will skyrocket once the journey begins. 

*Because I yearn to be an inspiration to whom have a dream but too afraid to go after it. I wish to empower more woman to step out and explore without fear. I aspire to prove that determination and persistence are what it takes to achieve a dream, we must not give up in times of hardship. I am here to bring about more smiles, love, and positive energy in the world. My name is Yanise, a 21 year-old college student from Hong Kong. I am currently taking a gap year to accomplish the dream to break the Guinness World Record of the longest journey on inline skates. I have lived a life of adventures attending to high school in Italy, moving from states to states every year on my own, and backpacked across Central America and Europe for 6 months. I have been told many times that my inexhausible positive energy and experiences as a restless solo traveler have inspired many, especially young women like myself, to act upon their dreams. 

I believe the world is a reflection of who we are. Positive energy is reciprical, so are trust, love, and care. cynism has shrouded most people due to the modern-day fraud, terroism, tragedy of rapes and homicide....but those malefactors are only the minority and they have absolutely no rights to represent the entire human race. In the threat of the evil minority, we must firmly endorse our faith in the goodness in people. We must open up our door to demonstrate trust in the hope that others will slowly open theirs. For this reason, I have decided to dedicate this upcoming challenge to prove what I preach; I will be rollerblading for 4 months without spending/accepting any money. I could only seek help from random strangers each day, and the entire journey will be documented.
