About the event
On Dec. 7, 2020, The Grand Canyon University Men's Ice Hockey team will be participating in a fundraser exhibition game with the players of the Arizona Coyotes Alumni Association. This exhibition game will put the GCU college aged team agaisnt the Coyotes Alumni players who have all spent numerous years playing in the NHL during their careers. This event is a fantastic opportunity to get the local hockey community more involved in the game experience by bringing the game to a smaller and more intimate venue than the typical 15,000+ seat arenas in the NHL. Fans who attend this game will be treated to a first class experience of great on-ice action and will get meet and with players from both teams. Our progran is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that is supported through player dues and donations. Working alongside the Coyotes Alumni we truly believe that this event will be a great sponsorship opportunity for your business.

To help fulfill our goal of winning an ACHA National Championship, the Grand Canyon University Men's and Women’s Ice Hockey teams we rely upon the continued support of the local community and corporations. Without this support, GCU Ice Hockey would not be able to continue to provide each player the opportunity to compete against the tier universities that operate on similar budgets. Since we are unable to provide athletic scholarships, our student-athletes still have to pay upwards of $2,500 per player to offset the cost of participating. This is in addition to their full cost of tuition, meals, and housing.
For many of our players, who come from all over the world, this includes high costs associated with living in a foreign country due to high exchange rates. Each athlete costs between $12,000 and $15,000 to play a full season. The full balance is covered through player dues, private donations, and continued fundraising.
Thunders Student Athletes was created to support and promote the growth of ice hockey in Arizona by raising and managing funds for the betterment of the student athlete and coaches of the men’s and women’s Grand Canyon University (GCU) Ice Hockey Programs, while assisting with the growth of local youth ice hockey programs. Your Donation will help contribute to the GCU Ice Hockey programs’ overall operating budget of over $300,000.
The Members Puck Wall will commemorate the team’s home rink and gives donors the opportunity to purchase a puck that will be personalized and mounted as a part of the legacy wall display at AZ Ice Arcadia. Sponsorships start at $250 with levels of $500, $1,000, $2,500 on up. Each level provides a donor a more prominent location for their puck, and they can make their selection for an annual or multi year commitment. All proceeds benefit the GCU Ice Hockey and donations are tax deductible.
