About the event
The Desi Comedy Fest is the largest annual South Asian comedy festival in America. The founders are comedians Samson Koletkar and Abhay Nadkarni and their vision is to showcase the funniest South Asian comedians and create a unique live comedy experience for the South Asian diaspora.
Now in its 4th year, the 2017 edition presents 40 comedians of Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Afghani, and Sri Lankan descent. They also have comedians from various minority groups and the LGBTQ community. The comedians are raw, hilarious and some of the best in the business.
About 4000 people are expected in attendance for the festival, the audience mostly comprised of South Asians and some non South Asian attendees. The shows are geared towards ages 18 and above. The comedians this year come from all over USA, Canada, South Africa and India, and have been on Comedy Central, Conan, Stephen Colbert, Montreal Just for Laughs, have won competitions and performed on every habitable continent. The fest wil be promoted via emails, facebook, twitter, instagram, radio, print and TV. In the past the fest has been covered by SF Chronicle, Huffingtn Post, East Bay Express, San Jose Mercury News, India West, The times of India, NDTV, KQED, CBS5, and more.
This year the festival will run 11 consecutive nights from Aug 10 till 20 across 9 Bay Area cities of San Francisco (3 shows), Berkeley, Santa Clara, Fremont, Livermore, Mountain View, Alameda, Mill Valley and Santa Cruz. More details are available on www.DesiComedyFest.com

The Desi Comedy Fest was co-founded by comedians and friends Samson Koletkar & Abhay Nadkarni.
Samson Koletkar is the world's only Indian Jewish standup comedian. He has performed all over USA, Canada & India, and has been featured on NBC, CBS, NPR, KRON, NDTV, Asian Jewish Life & Silicon India listed him in "10 Indian Comedians who found success in U.S.". He is also the founder of Comedy Oakland - the #1 Comedy Club in San Francisco Bay Area on Yelp. Samson is originally from Mumbai and has a Master's degree in Computer Software. He quit his tech job to pursure standup.
Abhay Nadkarni is a comedian/writer/producer that moved from South-India to South Central Los Angeles for grad school. He's appeared on CBS, Audible's "America from Abroad with Rob Delaney", been featured in The Huffington Post, SF Chronicle, and been part of comedy festivals SF Sketchfest and the World Series of Comedy. He is also the co-creator of "The Setup", a weekly comedy show featured as one of the best underground comedy shows in San Francisco by Thrillist and Timeout.
