ConnecTech Launch Party,

Washington, District of Columbia, United States Washington, District of Columbia, United States

  • About the event

Inadequate and unequal access to technology widens the opportunity gap, and continues to create immeasurable disparities in the quality of a student’s education. Student Connectech aims to provide reliable, accessible, and up-to-date technology access to every student in the public school education system

o   Only 39% of public schools have wireless network access available for the entire school. Only 49% of African Americans and 51% of Hispanics have high-speed internet at home, as compared with 66% of Caucasians.

o   Learning  tech skills is a  crucial element  to achieving success in today’s economy- our goal is to put a personal laptop in every public school student’s hands

This event is our organizations launch, and we need your help to start closing the divide.

    Why should you sponsor?

A student's access to technology opens up a world of communication, a world you can help open by sponsoring our launch and company.

Half of all teachers of higher-income students say that all or almost all of their students have access to the digital tools they need at home. The figure drops to 20 percent among teachers of middle-income students and just 3 percent among teachers of the poorest students, according to the survey of 2,462 teachers by the Pew Internet & American Life Project in cooperation with the College Board and National Writing Project. About seven in 10 teachers say their students now rely on the Internet to complete their assignments- Washington Post

We are leaving more and more students behind everyday. Help us put a laptop in every students hand.

    Haley Lickstein

My name is Haley Lickstein, and I have been working for over a year now to create Student ConnecTech. Growing up I had the unique opportunity to attend over 9 different primary and secondary schools in three different states. I experienced first hand the drastic differences in education a student recieves purely because of their zip code. A school's acces to up to date technology, or lack of access is a huge factor to these differences. I decided at a very young age that closing the opportunity gap in our nations public school education system was an issue I would spend my life trying to solve. Now it is time for the launch of Student ConnecTech, a organization dedicated to closing the digital divide and giving every student their own access to technology. A laptop provides a student with the opportunity to be creative, innovative and curious- to provide those opportunities I need your help!
