About the event

After losing my best friend and her daughter to domestic violence I wanted to do something to educate women and young women about dating relationships.  Had my girlfriends daughter made a better choice for a intimate partner they may very well be alive today. Her abusive boyfriend shot and killed my friend and her daughter in front of their two children.  I believe when women make wise relationship choices they reduce their risk of becoming victims to domestic violence. 

The purpose of this conference is to equip the attendees with tangible and practical tools that will help them make better dating choices before consummating intimate, toxic relationships.  

The premise is to share with the attendees tips on how to avoid getting into relationships with a person with the propensity for abusive behavior.  We all know what the problems are, we've talked about them year after year. This conference is about elevating consciousness, building up confidence and developing authentic character that will transform participants long after they leave the conference.

I believe this is an important topic of interest to the people in the Durham and surrounding areas.  Women especially and teenage girls can benefit from the information that the host of guest speakers will share with them during this event.  We want to reach the young ladies who are embracing their adult life to ensure they have the knowledge to implement action steps and make better choices early in their young adult life.

Shirley Williams

Shirley T. Williams is an author, certified Life Change Facilitator and an alcohol and substance abuse specialist committed to empowering women who live beneath their potential to feel authentically happy and fulfilled.

As a licensed substance abuse counselor Shirley has spent more than ten years helping women struggling to overcome drug addictions by teaching them to set boundaries for their lives and make powerful choices that align their daily activities to their goals.

For years Shirley struggled to overcome self limiting beliefs and the painful memories of a traumatic childhood that haunted her.  She has written a book about her experiences entitled Conversations With The Little Girl Within, A Journey of Forgiveness, Healing and Liberation from Unresolved Childhood Issues.

Her career as founder and CEO of an award-winning nonprofit organization allowed her to collaborate with local nonprofit and church organizations to facilitate life skills workshops and implement programs for youth and for families stressed by pressing life issues.

Shirley's multi-faceted talents meet the needs of women dealing with life issues around managing toxic relationships with abusive adult children and others, low self-esteem and healing from unresolved childhood issues.  Her techniques teach women self understanding, empowers them to take control of their lives and they learn how to cut the apron strings while redefining their roles and involvement toxic relationships.
