  • About the event

Electromagnetic Emissions:  writing the standards which enable the modern world.

If you're a test house, proving house, standards body or supplier of technical test equipment or consultancy services, this event matters to you.  Because it matters to your OEM clients.  Car-makers; Tool-makers;  Cooker-makers;  X-ray machine makers... If it needs electricity, it needs CISPR.

Every product that has electricity flowing through a circuit gives off a small amount of electromagnetic radiation as a result.  If those spurious electromagnetic emissions are not controlled and tweaked appropriately, there can be unintended interference with the operation of other nearby electrical appliances.

Thankfully, the whole complicated issue is managed by a set of internationally agreed emissions standards, administered by the International Electrotechnical Commission and written by international specialists under the auspices of CISPR.

Once a year, these international specialists get together from all around the world at the CISPR congress.  In September 2018, that congress takes place in the UK for the first time since 2001.

The Federation of Communication Services has been the voice of Britain’s professional Business Radio handset providers and spectrum-licensees for 35 years.  So we were delighted to respond when the UK standards body, BSI was looking for interested partners to help the UK host CISPR’s Annual Congress.

Together, we have chosen to host CISPR 2018 at Aston University in the centre of Birmingham, from September 24 to October 4 2018.  It's a wonderful, modern venue with fantastic access to the UK's Second City;  FCS is handling all the non-technical elements of the event – logistics, accommodation and venue management for delegates, as well as the sponsorship opportunities for suppliers who wish to be associated with this unique gathering of international influencers.

We are seeking ideas to help make this event a really memorable experience for CISPR’s delegates.  So we are looking a bit beyond the hackneyed ‘two sales people behind a flag-draped table’ approaches to sponsorship.

We already have big brand-building opportunities will exist for companies who want to sponsor an event App, attach their brand to the wi-fi or provide lunches and snacks for delegates. But we are also looking at smaller, more niche or more focused opportunities for organisations who are interested in specific work-streams or specific groups of delegates.  Whole work-streams are dedicated to specific product areas, making ideal niche brand-attachment opportunities for Automotive, say (CIS-D), Domestic Electrical Appliances (CIS-F) or Medical Equipment (CIS-B)

We are also seeking to broaden the opportunity for other UK institutions to benefit from having the world’s finest radio-interference experts all gathered within two hours’ drive of 90% of the UK’s population.  With ‘poster sessions’ where research students can sanity-test ideas or proposals.

Issues around radio-frequency emissions and interference are going to be ever more critical in the years ahead, as the so-called ‘internet of things’ encourages a whole new generation of hopeful entrepreneurs into a market where interference management is already a crucial concern.  FCS is genuinely delighted to have this opportunity to be a catalyst in the process of future-proofing the digital world economy.

    Why should you sponsor?

CISPR delegates are key influencers in the choice of testing houses, test equipment, accreditation bodies and technical consultancy.  The annual CISPR congress is a unique international gathering of the finest and best-informed minds in the world of radio-frequency emissions.

CISPR's work underpins the use of everything from engine management systems in automobiles to electric arc furnaces in smelting plants by ensuring the electromagnetic emissions created by machinery are mapped and constrained to prevent interference with other electrical equipment in the same vacinity.

As a working group of the International Electrotechnical Commission, CISPR delegates exert influence of a truly inrernational scale.

CISPR  2018 takes place at Aston University in the centre of Birmingham, from September 24 to October 4 2018.  It's a well-equipped, businesslike and modern venue with first-class accommodation, business and social facilities on site.  But only 10 minutes walk from the centre of one of Europe's most vibrant cities, with world-class international air connections, at the hub of the UK's road and rail network.

Issues around radio-frequency emissions and interference are going to be ever more critical in the years ahead, as 5G and the so-called ‘internet of things’ encourage a whole new generation of hopeful entrepreneurs into a market where interference management is already a crucial concern.  FCS is genuinely delighted to have this opportunity to be a catalyst in the process of future-proofing the digital world economy.
