Book It! 5K Walk/Run,

Ramsey County Library - Roseville, Roseville, Minnesota, United States Ramsey County Library - Roseville, Roseville, Minnesota, United States

  • About the event

Proceeds from the 5K Walk/Run support the Summer Reading Program offered at the seven Ramsey County libraries located in Maplewood, Mounds View, New Brighton, North St. Paul, Roseville, Shoreview and White Bear Lake.

Being out of school for three months often halts students’ academic progress. The Summer Reading Program is one way that children can maintain their skills and, in some cases, actually increase their reading ability.  Last summer, 7,523 children and teens participated in the Summer Reading Program at the seven suburban Ramsey County Libraries. The Children and Teen Librarians took the program to school district summer schools and other community programs serving youth who have not been able to access the public libraries.

    Why should you sponsor?

In 2016, 207 runners/walker/strollers finished the race and 50 others volunteered at the event.  Although most participants live in Ramsey County, the event attracts adults from Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin.  This is a fun, healthy event for all ages.

The Friends of the Ramsey County Libraries was formed in 1979 to advocate for and support public library services provided in suburban Ramsey County. The Friends is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization with a governing board of directors, three part-time staff, and hundreds of dedicated volunteers.

Friends of the Ramsey County Libraries is the group that can pool the gifts of many donors and magnify the impact on the community.  Individuals and organizations contribute to the Friends to ensure that the libraries remain places where anyone can find information, get help with technology and media, meet and talk with others who share their interests, and expand their skills in just about any subject.

Many programs and services at the libraries located in Maplewood, Mounds View, New Brighton, North Saint Paul, Roseville, Shoreview, and White Bear Lake would not have been possible without the financial support of Friends of the Ramsey County Libraries.  The Friends have initiated, funded, enhanced, or expanded programs for all ages including the Summer Reading Program, Kindergarten Library Card Signup, adult computer classes, teen book clubs and special events, homework assistance, and training for job seekers.  They have also made substantial additions to the collection of library books and materials.

In addition, the Friends have raised funds for capital campaigns for library construction or remodeling of the Ramsey County libraries in North St. Paul, Maplewood, Roseville, New Brighton and White Bear Lake and currently has an active capital campaign for a new regional library in Shoreview.

Since  2011, the Friends of the Ramsey County Libraries has been certified by the Minnesota Charities Review Council as meeting all 27 standards covering Public Disclosure, Governance, Financial Activity, and Fundraising.  Donors can be assured that their gifts will be managed in the most effective way for the benefit of users of the public libraries.
