Black Girls Unite Conference,

Monticello, Arkansas, United States Monticello, Arkansas, United States

  • About the event

    Greetings!

In 2013, the first Black Girls Unite Conference was held. There were over 80 participants and four speakers that gathered. The Black Girls Unite Conference was birthed out of a need for young African American girls to have a place to voice their fears, concerns, and frustrations with the things that they were dealing with. We knew that it was important for them to see women that looked like them, who had experienced things that they had, but went on to live successful healthy lives.

We are so excited to bring back the Black Girls Unite Conference that will take place August 08, 2020. Our theme this year is Adjusting Our Crowns, and our goal is to raise $4000.  My community is in Southeast Arkansas, but I don't want the girls in my community (and surrounding areas) to not have exposure to the same kind of conferences that happen in the bigger city.

The first conference was in 2013, and at that time, I was a teacher who had worked in middle and high schools. I saw girls that had dealt with being bullied because of their hair and their color. I witnessed girls who had dealt with suicide, the pressures of sex, and even abuse. The need is there, and we have a goal to make it happen.

We can’t meet our goal without the help of people like you! That’s why I am writing to you! Would you consider donating to help sponsor our event? By giving to the Black Girls Unite Conference, you’ll be able to help us provide free registration to participants, a swag bag, lunch, and a host of activities. These participants will have a chance to listen to motivational speakers that will help them get excited and prepared for the upcoming school year.

In appreciation of your anticipated donation, we would like to offer you free publicity and advertising in the following forms:

Friends of BGU- $1-200 (Name on program)

Silver $200-299 (Name on program and recognition on social media accounts,)

    Why should you sponsor?

Sponsoring this event will help people to know that you care about the plight of young African American girls. It will give them the opportunity to attend an event that is only similar in bigger cities. It is a great task, and a worthwhile cause.

    Gelinda Dailey

I am very active in my community in, where I strive to make an impact on the lives of families. I very much believe in the saying, “to whom much is given, much is required.”

I graduated from the University of Arkansas Monticello in 2004 with a Bachelor in English with a Writing Concentration. I continued my education and received a Masters of Art in Teaching in 2008.

I taught in the public school system for 11 years. Many of my students, who are now college graduates, accredit their successes to my teachings. I later decided to continue my education and pursued a Doctorate Degree in Organizational Leadership at Grand Canyon University,

    graduating in 2012.

I have a published dissertation on Career Advancement of African American Women in Public School Education in Arkansas, as well as a book titled “Just Help Me Get Through the Month.” Writing has been my outlet for expressing my personal triumphs and my concern for civic issues.

I have used my experiences and abilities to become a life coach. Some of my favorite speaking engagements are the following:

    • The Black Doctorial Network Conference, “African American in Academia,” in Philadelphia as a Panelist.
    • Black Women Who Plan and Create National Conference, “Vision Boards and Goal Setting,” in Silver Spring, Maryland
    • Open Horizon Conference, “It Still Takes a Village – A Look at Youth and Adult Incarcerations and the Role Communities Play,” in Warren, Arkansas for the Human Development Center
    • Annual Stop the Hate Rally: Spreading Peace in Our Communities in 2016 and 2017

I left teaching public schools in 2015 and started employment with the State of Arkansas as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for the Division of Youth Services. I visited every juvenile facility in the state where I occasionally saw a student I had in public school. It was then I knew that I must continue to work on making an impact in the lives that I encounter.Today, I am the founder and CEO of Gold Crown Creations, LLC. My primary focus is helping others achieve their goals by helping them be present so that they can focus on their future.
