  • About the event

We are spreading AUTISM AWARENESS in and around the Lowcountry.  1 in 45 kids today are born on the autism spectrum.  The 5k race starts and ends at Red Cedar Elementary. It is a fast flat course thru Bluffton Park in Old Town Bluffton and will be chip timed by Tim Waz with Grounded Running. There will be one water station on the course approximately at the halfway point. The race will start promptly at 8am with the Children’s DASH followed by the 5k run. Parents are welcome to run with their child(ren) if necessary. All participants will be welcomed back to the finish with a shower of bubbles (representative of special needs) and a finisher’s medal. NOTE: Each participant MUST turn in their timing chip to receive a medal!

The award ceremony will take place after the last runner completes the 5k course. The overall top male and female runners and the top age group male and female runners of the 5k in each of the following age groups (<10, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+) and DASH in each of the following age groups (<4, 5-7, 8-10) will receive awards. You must be present to receive an award.  Refreshments will be available for all during the event.

Shirts are guaranteed if registered by April 14th.

    Kimberley Reardon

I am a mother of an Autistic child who is my idol.  When he was diagnosed I could not find any resources in the area to help, so I opened Ignite the Senses Children's Gym.  It is the only sensory gym in the area to provide these kids with the input they need in order to survive and thrive.  After opening the gym I have learned truly how many kids are in the area that don't have the opportunities that others may get because of their finances.  I now provide support groups to help new and old parents get important information so that they don't have to go through what I had too.  Still I am looking to train the fireman and police officiers in the area how to spot and help those with autism that may not be able to communicate their needs. I want to do whatever it takes to better the lives of these wonderful and beautiful kids.
