About the event

Every day an average of 38 babies are born in Austin. Birth professionals – including obstetricians, midwives, doulas, therapists, yoga instructors, acupuncturists, chiropractors, and so many more – provide the support that moves families from surviving to thriving. Sometimes they are the first ones to whom we whisper, “I’m pregnant.” They are the ones who catch the babies, holding them briefly as they take their first breath. They support our bodies when we feel we cannot walk another block in the Texas heat. They are the people who witness the transformation of women and men into moms and dads.

We, at PIP, know how important a strong birth professional network is to the health of our community. We are grateful to live in a city with such a vibrant array of birth professionals. The Austin Birth Awards is our way of showing our gratitude for the ways these individuals have touched our lives and thanking them for continuing to be the welcoming committee for the next generation.   

In this time of celebration, we cannot ignore that there is still work to do to change the birth landscape for women of color in Austin and beyond. Black women are three times more likely to die in childbirth than their white counterparts. We are proud to announce a new category this year to honor the best birth professional supporting women of color.

It is our sincere hope that the nomination and voting will be widely spread in the community and that all parents will see fit to nominate and vote for their beloved birth professionals. The awards hold deep significance for many in the birth community and expectant and new parents often seek these recommendations as they search for practitioners.
