Alohomora: Unlock the Wizarding World is an immersive theatre/game based event which is an attempt to create an immersive alternate reality in which audience members have agency to control a narrative we have devised as themselves. It utilizes to an overarching narrative, loosely based on JK
Rowling’s Harry Potter series and the event is set in Ilvermony, the American Wizarding School, where every participant can compete in a global
Triwizard Tournament to secure everlasting glory and enjoy theYule ball. However, the threat of blood supremacy looms over the post-Voldemort Wizarding World, and the headmaster will use the tournament to build an international magical army that will counter the clandestine but powerful Death
Eater Coalition. We realize this narrative through live-action roleplay, immersive theatre, themed games, and an escape room. Such an event is unprecedented in scope and form and will prove to be a success since the team has brought the entire University together to implement this project. Talent has been recruited from the School of Cinematic Arts, IMGD (Interactive Media and
Game Division), the School of Dramatic Arts, Marshall School of Business, Viterbi School of Engineering, School of Architecture, Thornton School of Music, and the Glorya Kaufman School of Dance. We are currently collaborating with EscapeSC, Residential Education, Sidney Harman
Institute of Polymathic Study, and Themed Entertainment Association.
This is an opportunity to gain visibility at the biggest event of the University this year. University of Southern California consists of a diverse student body who share the love for a comfortable lifestyle and often come from affluent backgrounds, making them a lucrative market.
This event is also a direct channel to students interested in immersive experiences ranging from reading to gaming to theatre to escape rooms to dance and music considering the multi-faceted nature of the event.
Furthermore, this is an opportunity to show the innovative nature of your company by supporting an event which is experimenting with a new and potentially revolutionary form of narrative medium completely student lead and designed. The anti-racism message of this particular narrative which will be driven home in a fun and engaging manner, is also universally relevant and strongly contemporary. By sponsoring this event a company can also publicly align themselves with the cause and promote values that are important to the corporation.
We are Special Events Committee from the official Undergraduate Student Government from the University of Southern California. We can be anything the students want us to be and our events range from educational events on women empowerment to events all about food to experimental student led events trying to transform the landscape of interactive narrative.
