About the event
Saplings Schools for Autism are trying to fundraise so that their children can continue to have in-school, onsite speech and language therapy three days a week. The difference this facility has made to the children's communication over the last three years has been huge. While the school has secured the funding for the 2017/18 school year it is always a difficult target to reach and we would really appreciate any assistance you could provide.
Saplings are Special Schools for Children with Autism and Complex Needs. We currently cater for children from age 4 - 18. The Saplings Schools for Autism are based in Dublin, Kildare, Carlow, Kilkenny and Westmeath in the Republic of Ireland.
The inaugural #AYearForSaplings Golf Day is scheduled to be held on Monday 2nd April 2018 which is World Autism Awareness Day. We hope to raise €15,000 for the school from the day. The cost of running such a fundraiser day is approx €10,000 which is why sponsorship is so important to us as we need to allow for the following overheads:
- Use of golf course & facilities for the day
- Post round meal for all participants (approx 160ppl)
- Evening entertainment (The band!)
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects the way a person communicates and relates to people around them. People with autism have difficulties with everyday social interaction.
Saplings support individuals with a diagnosis of autism and their families, assisting them to achieve their full potential and participate in their family and community life, through the provision of holistic evidence based services, celebrating each individuals dignity, uniqueness and right to an optimal education.
Should you wish to get involved please contact @Paddy_Golf on Twitter &/or Instagram where all progress reports, information on the day and more will be available.
Thank you so much for reading our story & hopefully you will feel it in your heart to help sponsor our charity day.
Why should you sponsor?
In the coming weeks and months we are hoping to attract some main sponsors to help us run the event & lend their support and raise these much needed funds for the Saplings school.
Remember this fundraiser is to continue the facility currently in place, and I hope to double the service into a full week of speech & therapy for a year! There are twenty six students in the Kill school, while there are a further eighty children on a waiting list.
I also have a child with Autism. A visit to Saplings school through work on a community outreach day has spurred me into live to do something big, something that will make visible change to the these brilliant children who need your help. My son is lucky enough to be in main stream school and is developing well. There are other families and kids who need the services of Saplings Schools and would be lost without them. The state pays the teachers here and that is where the aid stops. There is no money for services we all take for granted in main stream school. Through daily hard work, scrimping and saving and doing their absolute best the team of teachers and parents have steadily improved aspects of the school which in turn have actively improved the development of every child going to the school.
I believe we can do some thing great together. As a keen golfer, a charity golf day was my initial thought and I am looking to bring this event to fruition and hope to be able to hand over €15,000 to the School at the end of the day.
