In May 2020, the Mothers Matter Centre is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a national conference entitled '2020 A Vision for the Inclusion of Isolated Mothers in Canada'. The conference is aimed at exploring the means to unleash the powerful force of isolated low-income mothers in Canada.
The goal of the conference is to provide unique but interdependent strategies on how to invite isolated mothers in from the margins of Canadian society to achieve social and economic inclusion. To that end there will be three cross-citing themes: Indigenous, newcomer/refugee, and low-income Canadian mothers.
The program will include international keynote speakers, mothers sharing their personal journeys of transformation, and expert panels grouped under four categories:
1. HEALTH, WELLNESS, AND SAFETY
2. ECONOMIC SECURITY
3. LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION
4. SOCIAL INCLUSION
Throughout the 2.5 days of the Conference we will feature mothers sharing their stories of transformation alongside the insightful perspectives of contemporary researchers, policy-makers, and community practitioners.
Delegates will deepen their understanding of how to achieve personal and community change by learning from mothers who have overcome barriers of isolation and experts across multiple fields.
